I'd like to run this- I saw the variant and it seems incredibly interesting. Rules are here:

http://diplomiscellany.tripod.com/id18.html

I especially like the part about being able to name whatever areas of the map you're in first.

We'll need seven players to start. Any takers?

(map is at the link- tripod was messing up for the img link here)

PLAYERS:
Smid (England)
Vepres (France)
PiT (Spain)
Lewis (Denmark)
Xahar (Sweden)
Sewer Socialist (Netherlands)
tb75 (Portugal)

Basically, the premise is that each nation starts with a single fleet in the Atlantic Ocean in Spring 1501. In addition, each nation gets an additional fleet in Winter 1501 placed in either the Atlantic or Pacific. Multiple units can exist at a time in the dark blue ocean provinces, and the Cape of Good Hope and East Indies are connected so one can circumnavigate the globe.

Each nation can build in any owned Supply Center (or in the Atlantic, representing fleets built in Europe) as long as the nation has at least 3 SC's. You don't require Supply Centers for upkeep of your first two fleets until 1506 so they don't get disbanded before then.

Also, since this is based on exploration and everything, you do get to name each numbered province if you're the first player to have a unit within it.

Awesome Smiley

Also, Smid, since there's literally no difference between starting nations, you can go ahead and pick your side if you care to.

Any preference at all for country? It's only for flavor, of course.

Spring 1501 moves are due at Noon EST on Feb 10th

All rules at this link apply, otherwise standard Diplomacy rules apply.

Be sure to note the rules of the dark blue ocean squares- while in them, your fleets cannot convoy, support, or be supported.

Also, when you PM me your moves and you are moving to a numbered province,  include in the PM what you wish the province to be called (including the three letter abbreviation!) Smiley

Just as a note, by the way, I'd like to clarify to everyone you can send provisional orders and update them later. The last PM of orders you send before the deadline will be the one I use for your nation, no exceptions.

Question for you all. Should 28-29 and 92-93 be considered to have a land connection? Variant rules say nothing; I'm leaning towards yes, but I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts.

Just a note, please remember from now on to go ahead and give numbered provinces a name if you plan on moving to them. It's much easier for me so I can go ahead and make a new map Smiley

Also, sewersocialist, you still there man?

Orders for Fall 1501 due on saturday. Hesitant to say that because that's mardi gras weekend, but I'm fairly certain I can spare a few minutes to update Smiley

Sewer Socialist PM'd orders in just now. As this is the first turn, and there are a few diplomacy newbies in this game, I'm offering leniency here. starting next turn, ALL DEADLINES ARE FINAL. ALL ORDERS MUST BE EXPLICIT. PM any questions you have, that is all.

(noon eastern time on Saturday is Fall 1501 deadline)

Ack. I'm sorry everyone. I mentioned in the presidential race in Atlasia that everything went to hell for me last weekend because of a big number of factors all hitting me at once (breaking up with the girlfriend, broken cell phone, being a permanent tour guide for four friends while they were in town for Mardi Gras, having an accident that resulted in my car being totaled, accidentally leaving something minor out of my checkbook that led me to accidentally accrue $200 in overdraft fees, my parents suddenly informing me that I need to transfer to school in-state or find a new way to pay for school due to their monetary concerns [I got me a 2/3 scholarship, but the other third is still a killer], along with a host of other small things). Then when the dust did settle enough for me to focus on the forum a tad, I found myself in a suddenly difficult election campaign in Atlasia and devoted all of my energies to that, entirely forgetting about this game I recently started.

My apologies, everyone, and I'm sorry for inconveniencing you all. I'll have this updated and back on track by tomorrow Smiley Also, thanks for sticking with the game even through my absence! I'm very glad the game didn't die and that you all are excited to continue.

OKAY! Back on track now everyone.

Fall 1501

Denmark:
F sfl to 85; 85 named Lykkelige Havn (Lyk)

England:
F hbm to 93; province yet to be named (Smid must name it before Spring or I'll pick something else for him! Tongue)

France:
F mnu to 25; 25 named "très extraordinaire" (Tex)

Netherlands:
No orders recieved.

Portugal:
F 3 to 4; 4 named Gulf of Castile (cas).
(also, tb75, pick a name for 3 before Spring or I'll name it!)

Spain:
F ecn to 32; 32 named Nuevo Santiago (Nsa).

Sweden:
F Bir to 63; 63 named Olofsborg (Olo).

Everyone has one SC except for Portugal and the Netherlands. Note, the map is color coded for your convenience!

Per variant rules, everyone gets a fleet built in either AHS or PHS. Build orders due at midnight (Central Time) on Tuesday, March 2nd. (So that's like 6AM GMT March 3rd, so there's no confusion). If everyone gets their build orders in before that I'll go ahead and move on to the Spring. Also Smid and tb75, remember to name your places!

Wow, didn't notice until now actually. I was wondering what was taking so long D: and my real life's been busy (last trip home before mid-summer) and I even got to march in Washington yesterday!

Update coming later today. Expect a REGULAR UPDATE SCHEDULE from now on (I promise) Smiley
