Can the FBI compel him to turn over the documents or get a warrant? Hmm. But definitely going to be interesting to see the hearing.

Oh they'll try but there will be moves to quash any subpoena for documents.

To the extent there is a claim of executive privilege, sure.

White Houses are notorious for making such a claim for the docs belonging to former staffers.  The campaign docs may be trickier.

Isn't he not protected now that he's been fired?

Some of his testimony could be privileged and if the White House says, Docs XYZ are privileged, it can be fought but it's a tough win for the feds.
