And yet people in the country were so economically despereate that they voted for Trump to be his successor. He was a moderate republican as he stated himself

What's your point?

The "muh Romney Russia 2012" is a dumb, lazy pseudo-argument, the point of which isn't even clear to me. Russia didn't try to hack any of our elections before 2012. Russia didn't invade Ukraine until 2014 and Russian support of Syria in 2012 was much less of an issue because the gravity of the civil conflict there wasn't clear. It's almost as if, gasp, geopolitics changed between 2012 and 2016. Why to Republicans keep bringing this up in the context of discussions of Russian government support of Donald Trump in the 2016 electino?

What did the former governor of Massachusetts see in Russia that our Commander-in-Chief, 2 Secretary of States, and Vice President could not see?

Perhaps if Russia is this boogeyman you think it is, Obama should have focused more on foreign policy than joking with Jerry Seinfeld and making stupid Buzzfeed YouTube videos?

Part of the reason I dismiss the "economic anxiety" argument is that anyone who truly thought Trump was going to help out the lower quintiles economically, or who thought he cared about them, is a damned idiot. Like, 'this person belongs in a hospital because they have serious cognitive issues' idiot. Seriously, Trump's populist act was about as convincing as one of Bugs Bunny's disguises, and while I don't like Republicans, and think they tend towards willful ignorance and a lack of critical thinking, I find I cannot think so little of them as to believe they actually believed Donald Trump. Thus, I have to conclude that their motivations are evil rather than grossly misguided self-interest.

In addition, there's a good amount of evidence that Trump voters were not motivated by their economic circumstances.

Yes, Trump did well in rust belt states. I believe that had more to do with successful voter suppression by Republican governments in those states than due to Trump's working class appeal.

We need to face facts. Trump won because he stole a well-built Republican machine that runs on hate and attacking democracy, and because racism, bigotry, and evil have been given a strong foothold in this country by the GOP.

Quoting the Washington Post about anything relating to the 2016 election is a joke.

And why is it that the left always considers attacks against them "attacks against democracy?" You're like the 4th person on this forum alone to say that just in the past 2 days.

I love how you immediately say others are brainwashed but then go into the "Trump is attacking democracy!!!!" mode.
