Kavanaugh is emerging as dignified compared to several of the senators on the committee, similar as to when former senator mcgropey embarrassed himself in the gorsuch hearings

GOP spends 3 decades tearing up norms culminating in refusing to hold hearings for Garland, bragging about it, and even campaiagning on it and now they are faking outrage again at these mythical norms that were apparently there until today

Even with Kavanaugh, the SCOTUS will be more liberal than the Rehnquist Court.

No its not...this is one of the most Conservative SCOTUS's in modern history

Yeah, what a ludicrous assertion that the court is more liberal than 15 years ago. Every appointment since Rehnquist has pretty demonstrably either held the seat ideologically steady or moved it to the right.

The Roberts court is obviously legislating from the bench but only for Conservative causes:

The so called liberal Warren court was fair to both sides

As much as I think both sides of the Court debate have gotten too partisan, liberals are the ones who opened up this can of worms during the Warren Court. If they had not gone in a 2-decade binge of judicial activism, the Court would never have been politicized to begin with. They started the fight, but couldn't finish it.

This is all nonsense....every court is guilty of some form of judicial activism. This did not start with the Warren Court

You would have to claim that Kagan and Sotomayor are to the right of Souter and Stevens, that Roberts is to right of Rehnquist, and that Gorsuch is to the right of Scalia.   The only point where SCOTUS even moved slightly to the right Roberts was with Alito.

Can you say that was a straight face.

What difference does that make. The overall composure of the Roberts court is one of the most Conservative in modern history and its about to go off the rails with Kavanaugh.

Also btw, do you realize that Blackmun and Stevens, who were both appointed by Republican presidents, were more liberal than Ginsburg,Sotomayor,Breyer, and Kagan:

The Warren Court ramped it up to 11.

How so? Antonin Scalia said that Brown V Board was actually an originalist decision

Like I said, you make the claim that Kagan and Sotomayor are to the right of Souter and Stevens, that Roberts is to right of Rehnquist, and that Gorsuch is to the right of Scalia. You can't do it with a straight face, or at least an up to date graph.  Wink

But once again...wether or not some justices have moved to the left or the right is irrelevant because the overall partisanship and ideological leanings of this court is one of the most Conservative in history and will become even more so with Kavanaugh. There probably hasnt been a court this Conservative since pre-FDR days.

Try the 1980's through mid-1990.  That yellow ine on the chart represents the Court overall.    From O'Conner's appointment to the mid 2000's the Court was more conservative.  It also was more conservative in the early 1970's and in the late 40's early 50's.

It is time for the pendulum to swing back.

With the exception of the Warren court...the SCOTUS has almost always been a Conservative institution. There is no pendulum swinging back. There are plenty of examples of Conservative judicial activism in history prior to Warren...even 5 of the 7 judges who cast their vote for Roe were appointed by Republican presidents.

Yes...all of WV is on edge over whether or not Manchin votes to confirm Kavanaugh. After all....who can remember the massive electoral consequences the GOP suffered in 2016 over denying Merrick Garland a hearing and vote.

Media literally stopped talking about Garland in April

Yeah....because the voters dont care. They didnt care then and they dont care now. On the flipside....the GOP won't suffer any consequences if they put Kavanaugh on the SCOTUS

No they odnt care because media wont report it and an issue raised in April is far different than one raised in October

The media stops talking about things the public doesnt care about. Kavanaugh's story would of blown over by now if he didnt have so many accusers.

Has anyone looked at the calendars from the summer of '82 that Kav's attorney submitted to the Senate committee this morning as "supporting evidence" that he was not there?

(Obviously this is a ridiculous way to prove not going to a party... esp since you plan out your day... put game days, out of town days, school meetings etc. ... you don't tend to record get-togethers and "lets go to whoever's house to drink tonight" type parties which tend to be decided just before they happen")

Genius defense. Certainly, OJ is innocent as he did not write "muder Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman" on the day he was set-up
