I don't understand how this is going to take two months. He should have his VP announced as soon as possible given the nature of the campaign in these circumstances. I know it always takes a long time to vet a list of, what, 10-15 people? But jeez that's a long time.

Why as soon as possible? VP pick is big news; make your decision and then sit on it for a while to let the speculation run rampant. May would be crazy early to announce a VP candidate, historically, and I think better to wait to announce for a time when maybe you can get a bigger portion of the news cycle than right now. Doesn't seem like a disadvantage at all to announce in August, e.g.

Why Rice is in top contention is beyond me. She's never run for office and she brings nothing to the ticket.

She's also directly linked to the Benghazi hysteria and I have no idea why Team Biden would want to dig that up again.

Tbh I think it would be hugely to Biden's benefit if Trump went off about Benghazi for a big chunk of the campaign. Not convinced by Rice as a VP pick, but Benghazi is almost a reason to choose her; it would bait Trump into wasting time with an issue literally no one cares about anymore.

I'll throw my thoughts out here: I am still of the mindset that Kamala has always been at the top of the list for Joe. Obama chose a former primary rival (Biden) and they became a great team not only in context of winning the election, but working together once in office as well. That has to be influencing Biden's decision making. My position is still that if it isn't Kamala, I'll be surprised.

Yes, this is fairly clear. The VP nomination was always going to be Harris unless some obviously disqualifying information came out about her. Biden said some pretty harsh things about Obama back in November/December 2007, too, as I recall (it was quite a surprise when Biden dropped out and endorsed Obama early on), and that didn't prevent Obama from choosing him.

At the very least, nothing disqualifying about Harris has come out publicly. Maybe there is information being kept private by the campaign, of course.

Now I want Biden to pull a Time Magazine 2006 and name You as his running mate.

ENOUGH! Just announce already and stay out of my inbox.

He's inviting you because he's going to name You as his Vice Presidential nominee! Don't you want to be VP?

Palin was the modern day version of Quayle. Not necessarily unqualified for the job but just a total idiot in how they carried themselves. She was an absolutely horrendous pick even then.

Before McCain picked her, no one (even in Alaska) knew how much of a moron Palin was. In the very first days, she was thought to be a surprising but strong choice.

That quickly unraveled.

That "What would you like our next VP to talk about at her grassroots fundraiser with Joe?" email tonight is pretty telling.

"...fundraisers we've already held with Biden, Obama, Buttigieg, and Warren have been real highlights in past months".

The email later reads,

"And no matter who the running mate is, we know she'll be just as excited to meet you."

1 - Grammatically speaking, that eliminates Warren.

2 - It's, presumably, someone the Biden team hasn't streamed with yet...

Rice might actually win this lmao

"You" as in the person reading the email. I certainly haven't met Harris.

No, no, no. You're misunderstanding. They're soliciting your input because You are going to be the VP nominee, and they want to know what You would like to talk about at your grassroots fundraiser with Joe.

One last thing on Rendell. The idea that none of these women are “great picks” is inherently sexist. I don’t like to throw around that term casually, but it’s obvious here. You have many qualified women, several of whom have laid out their own vision for this country. Like all VP picks, they would each have flaws, however only when the field has been narrowed completely to women are these flaws viewed as deal breakers. The last two Democratic VP picks had significant flaws. Kaine’s past positions on abortion and his utter lack of charisma. Biden’s gaffes and voting record. None of that was talked about and scrutinized in the way these women have been. I for one will be happy with almost any choice on his shortlist. I think it should be a PoC, but almost none of the possible names are terrible. Each are very qualified to be the pick. The only candidate to give me pause is Rice and even that is solely due to my electoral concerns

Not to mention John Edwards (slimy and changeable, revealed to be a cheater), Joe Lieberman (too moderate, ultimately backstabbed the party), Al Gore (wooden, no charisma), etc., etc.
