Of course not. WFP is a pressure group solely. Their relationship with the Democrats is very different from, e.g., the Conservative Party's relationship with the Republicans. The WFP don't *ever* run separate candidates from the Democrats. In extremis, they might not endorse Cuomo (as happened in the mayoral race in 2005, e.g.), but they certainly won't run against him.

They'd have to be bold or courageous to do that, so no, probably not. They don't really have a history of challenging powerful Democrats.

Have they seriously challenged ANY democrat in recent cycles?

I believe the Working Families Party of New York has never run a candidate opposed to the official Democratic Party candidate in any race. Period. The only question is who they support in Democratic primaries and whether they endorse in the general election at all. (They have declined to endorse select Democrats in the past.)

They won a special election in CT this year for a state legislature seat. It was in Hartford so it was just the WFP candidate vs a democrat.

The relationship in other states is different. Has no real bearing on New York.

Yuh-Line Niou, a special election candidate last year for AD-65. Lost, ran as a Dem in regular elex, won.

Cancel wasn't an incumbent.
