17 cultural reasons why this European never wants to live in America

Personally, the truth of it embarrasses me. Some are especially bothersome, like 13-15. I also think of these kinds of things as the most important of the qualities American society lacks; self-awareness. We have no concept of how our extremely sheltered existence has disadvantaged us and have no interest in expanding beyond it. We could learn so much by gaining a different perspective than our inbred, delusional obsession with our own superiority. From living abroad for just a mere 6 total months I've learned more about myself and the society I cherish than the rest of the 22 years I've spent at home. What I hate more than our collective flaws is our absolute abhorrence towards any recognition of them. It holds us back and is in my eyes the single biggest hurdle America faces in its quest for redemption.

Yes, I hate America, blah blah blah...

The point of this wasn't really to discuss the writer and his motives or mine in posting this. After all, the messenger means next to nothing when the message is largely accurate. But then I suppose trashing the writer and his home is an easier defense than actually admitting flaws. Yes, there are indeed flaws in other countries. That doesn't change the fact that we have our own. Defensive responses to criticism aren't exactly a ringing endorsement regardless.
