Love it! I'd personally be disappointed by the Bush win, and honestly probably prefer Glenn to win reelection to get someone more progressive in four years. Also kinda troubled by Jesse Jackson- is his um, opinion on Jews different ITTL?

The situation in Iran is also really interesting. Khomeini's death is a great boon and will hopefully, fingers crossed, allow a democratic revolution to prevail.

ITTL as an American, I'd probably be a registered Republican at this point (like many Jews, I imagine). In 1980 I'd probably end up voting for Bush but it'd be a close call.

I'm for Percy right now. Hoping someone more progressive, in the mold of Bayh (maybe even the man himself) jumps in. I'm curious who the NY standard bearer will be, always loved New York politicians. I'd love it if Bella Abzug runs eventually.

I'd become an independent, probably, but still support the Republican ticket- soley because the Democrats nominated Helms. I'd probably endorse Glenn over Kemp tbh. But with Helms- yeah, maybe a good third party in safe states, but wouldn't risk a Helms Presidency.

Don't like McCarthy enough to protest vote for him. Kemp in close states, write in: Birch Bayh/Bobby Kennedy in safe states (perhaps McCarthy where there's no WI option).

Re: 1988 election: Lean Kemp. I strongly dislike Kemp's economic policies, but the way I view it, Gore is letting the religious right through the backdoor. And while I view economic conservatives as rivals and competitors, I view the religious right as the enemy. So I'd take the former over the latter every day.

Jackson still referred to New York City as "hymietown" and has been a fervent supporter of a Palestinian state. However, has since 1988 thoroughly apologized for his comments and allied with some reformed synagogues on the issue of Israel-Palestine peace process. Cuomo and Gore are both similarly pro-Israel. There are Israel skeptical elements in both parties, but mostly in the Democratic Party.
