I thought the Saudis (and really most Arab countries in the area) had also pledged to erase Israel from the map or some variation on that?

I guess it's nice that they have dropped that.

It's all interests, of course. The Saudi might've not been for destroying Israel for some time now, but they're just as vile as ever. It's just that Israel can't afford to rebuke powerful neighbours willing to cooperate, not in this neighborhood.

They've been saying that for like 40 years now. It has yet to happen. Not all threats are credible threats.

It's certainly not such an acute problem that it's worth getting in bed with Mohammed Bone Sawman over.

The Middle East is a very tough neighbourhood. People trying to force Israel to spurn advances for better relations from powerful countries that for years denied its existence have no idea how ridiculous they sound.

Of course it is. But it's also an extremely revisionist actor that does everything in its power to change the Middle Eastern power balance to its side, and they're doing this by starting bloody wars like in Yemen (which, interestingly, American "non-interventionists" don't mind coming from Iran) and sending long tentacles of terror and murder across the land. It's rational, sure, but it's also just as evil as Saudi Arabia's actions.
