Very good choice for Romney. Rubio would become Lil' Marco and completely collapse in the debate against Biden, Cornyn is way too conservative, Martinez's record as Governor would be scrutinized (plus Romney has that experience already, he needs a congressperson), Ryan scares people away with his Randian politics, Haley is too inexperienced in this stage, Christie looks appealing but we saw how his elitist rudeness (attacking constituents) makes him extremely unlikable, Frist and Thune are too establishment and bring nothing to the table geography-wise, Hutchinson is an interesting choice but not really good geographically, Kyl and Owens are too boring and wouldn't bring much, and Pawlenty isn't a good campaigner.
Portman is a very smart campaigner, almost assures a victory in Ohio and will stand strong in a debate with Biden.

Funny that Obama leads in foreign policy, that's the only issue in which, for me, Romney is far preferable Tongue

I obviously disagree with the healthcare reform, though it's better than the current situation ITTL. But anyhow, I'd probably be pretty supportive of Romney here because of the foreign policy.

Actually, it's funny- in 2012 I was a diehard Romney supporter (as diehard as an Israeli kid who doesn't really understand the American system can be), so I do wonder what would've happened to my own political views had Romney won. Would I still tack hard to the left (I was pretty far-right then, on foreign policy issues at least), or would I float to the center-right and stay there? Hm.

I'd probably vote against it if I was a Senator. It's very technocratic and basically attack on humanitaries- the third and last provisions are awful, in my opinion.

This is a great TL as well quite similar to the one by UWS with Rubio. The Differences in the two TL's are actually quite small.

Portman though probably won't be running in 2020 (too old IMO). Let's see if President Romney can elect a Republican Successor like Reagan did with GHWB in 1988 assuming he beats Hillary or Biden in 2016.

The differences in realism and formatting are pretty huge between this TL and yours, imho. This one is favourable to Romney, of course (just like other TLs are favourable to other politicians), but in a far more subtle and elegant way.

Clinton will probably win. I'd support Dean and then Biden in the primary, but considering whoever wins will be a sacrifical lamb, I guess Clinton is find. I'd still vote for her or Beebe over Romney (Sanders probably not- while I agree with him on domestic policy more than Romney, it highly depends on his foreign policy).

Ooh Green Bernie candidacy. This will probably destroy his credibility, and I'm also interested in seeing what electoral map it produces. Hopefully he wins at least a few states to make it interesting.

What you are basically making your timeline about is if everything went right for Mitt Romeny. Your timeline lacks realism

I think that, while this TL is definitely rosey for Romney, it's not outside the realms of realism. It's a quality TL, and he's not making Romney an unbeatable Jesus or creepily worships him (unlike, er, another TL on this site does with another politician). You don't see, for example, Republicans making huge gains in the midterms in states like California. You see a rosey TL for Republicans which also happens to be very good, just like many great TLs here are rosey for Democrats.

François Fillon  elected French President, defeating the Far Right Candidate Marine Le-Pen in a landslide

First Round Results:

François Fillon 23.5%
Marine Le-Pen 20.7%
Emmanual Macron 20.4%
Jean-Luc Mélenchon 19.3%
Benoît Hamon 6.1%
Nicolas Dupont-Aignan 5.2%
Others 4.8%

Second Round Results:

François Fillon 64.9%
Marine Le-Pen 35.1%

Okay time out…this part is somewhat off the rails.  Speaking as someone who is half French how would this TL change history to allow Fillon to win?  I get Brexit not happening because Romney was not as public as Obama about it (and yay) but Fillon's defeat was due to a massive nepotism scandal that I don't see Romney really changing.  Please explain how Fillon would win because this part is a bit confusing and I don't see how this TL would have caused this (or at least caused this without a complete collapse in PS numbers)

I definitely don't like Fillon winning, but I think in this TL it's explained as a part of a global right-wing trend where the establishment right does well in elections. It's possible that an alternate history will have many different changes. However, yeah, I don't see Fillon overcoming this scandal and actually beating both Macron and Le Pen in the first round.

Nice! Anything about Netanyahu's corruption investigation? 2019 is the year we might get an indictment.

I really don’t know anything about domestic Israeli politics (other than what is reported on the news here ) so let’s just say things remain as about the same as OTL for Domestic Israeli Politics.

I see, that makes sense. I'll keep hoping that Bibi will be indicted and forced to retire in OTL Tongue

Pataki is a great choice. Anyway, so far I'm not sure who I'd support, but it'd be a Democrat. Waiting for everyone to announce and polls to come out to decide. In any case, it won't be Biden or de Blasio.

Why not Biden? Because of the Clarence Thomas hearings or because he's a walking #MeToo bombshell?

But seriously, you can always jump ship and back flawless beautiful cosmopolitan conservative Nikki Haley. It's never too late to be what you might have been Smiley.

Nope. He's just too old imo Tongue
Anyway, Haley is too conservative for me- I might've backed Baker but I think the U.S. ITTL had enough ModerateMassachusettsGovernorTM so I'd prefer a changing of guards for now Wink

You probably would support Booker right

Booker? Nah, I don't like him. I'd probably support Gillibrand or Harris of Whitmer from the current candidates, depending on their campaigns.

This was great! Glad to see relatively moderate Republicans taking over, and America seems pretty prosperous, so not a bad reality. Kudos on finishing this TL!

Also:

Pls no

I really enjoyed it but when I say “successful” I mean finished TL. But don’t get me wrong, this was very good.

I know you're relatively new here (so am I, compared to many other posters), but there were literally dozens of other successfully finished TLs lol. Maybe the first one you saw with your own eyes.
