I've heard conflicting reports about the attack, but of course McCain would jump in immediately. Also, it doesn't seem to logical. Assad is basically having an upper hand, why would he risk everything by a chemical attack?

I'd wait for a confirmation.

you are ofc correct but if the US and turkey atm agree on anything, there is at least a realistic chance.

and for starters:

the russian "explanation" is bat-shoot crazy and totally weird.

reality often isn't logical, state leaders often work with "power" instead of reason and if someone should feel secure atm, it's assad.

hot take:

if assad would have fled to ryad, a new compromise coalition could have been built.

Conservative, right-wing stalwarts "Regan Battalion" support US leadership in Syria.

Translation: "I'm okay with reckless foreign policy that could widen global instability as long as its vaguely anti Trump"

stability is not the highest goal of this world, otherwise all countries would be dictatorships.

The middle east is obviously worse off due to our foreign policy.

i agree.

the question would just be if it is the noble thing to first break something and then look away and let others do the cleaning.
