I'm doing really stressful stuff but it's rewarding when I get it done and I finally feel like my life is on track and has purpose

Congrats! But the nihilistic abyss will miss you.

This is the second morning I've had to awkwardly comfort my roommates girlfriend after a fight. He's a nice guy but he's so cruel to her for some reason. I'm tempted to tell her to leave him but I don't feel it's my business at all. What do I do here? I have no experience in this department (and never wanted it).

That's a potentially nasty situation. The best you can do is listen to her, give advice if she asks, and maybe talk to your roommate about all of it. If he cares about her, he shouldn't be treating her badly. I wouldn't do it in a confrontational manner, but like you're trying to help him. Overall, I'd try to stay out of it as much as possible though. You don't need problems with the person you live with.

We're only expecting tropical storm force winds, so worst case scenario involves tornados. So, I just decided to get drunk; 5 shots of crown and 2 margaritas later, her I am! I hope everyone is safe and sound during this crazy storm.

Tropical Storm conditions in Tally. I'm expecting a Cat 1 hit at worst.

I hope you guys stayed safe! We saw wind gusts of 80-90mph around the Jacksonville area (recorded at Mayport and the Airport) with sustained of 60-70mph overnight. It was a decent storm, comparable to Matthew ('16) and Jeanne ('04) in this area. Our electricity went out for a little while, but it's back on now. The worst in my neighborhood seems to be some flooding, down tree branches, and a fallen tree in the road. It could've been much worse here, so I'm thankful. I just hope the folks in Southern and Western Florida faired alright.

The worst of the storm for us seems to have been the flooding and storm surge, which rushed into downtown Jacksonville overnight and prompted emergency warnings for residents in flood zones to flee and triggered rescue operations. According to the local news...

I bought my plane ticket to Green Bay (2-hour layover at O'Hare) for after Thanksgiving to visit with my girlfriend in Door County. Her mom has a friend who can get us discounted Packers' tickets, and they'll be playing at home when I'm there, so I want to take her to see her favorite team as well. I'm very excited for the trip!

About to move again for the third time this year at the end of the week. I hope this will work out.

I feel ya. I'm moving again soon as well. Hope you have an easy move.

Darn, you guys are doing a lot of moving. What's the reason? And Sunrise, are you staying in Virginia or moving out of state?

The girl at the Publix Liquor store seems to like me, so I literally smoked my last five cigarettes in a row as a means to have an excuse to walk down there faster Tongue

Better hope she likes her men to reek of cigarettes and fascism.

Hmm... bold choice. I didn't know a man had a say in that...

Well, me and my mom have been surviving in a freaking hotel in VA Beach for over a year and we want out.  Originally I was planning on going back to college in NC, but ideally we'd like to be as far away from here as possible.  It would also be more lucrative to either go to a community college or study online while finding work in the new industry out there.

Currently I'm looking at cheap houses in Durango.  It seems to have a nice small town atmosphere to it.  Problem is we won't be able to leave until we get our stolen money back.  And our family pretty much abandoned us after we left Connecticut (my home state), so we don't feel that we're bound to any one part of the country.

I won't go too much into what's happened to us, but I'm miserable here and so is she.

If you guys are looking for an affordable, safe place to live with a decent economy you can't go wrong with the Upper Midwest (outside of Minneapolis and Madison). I know in Wisconsin you can find decent 1-2 bedroom apartments for $500-700 per month; the housing costs are similar in the Dakotas, Iowa, and Nebraska as well. I'd recommend checking out Eau Claire, WI; Wausau, WI; Appleton, WI; and Oshkosh, WI in particular. I just hope you guys have a way of securing an income ASAP wherever you move because you'll obviously need proof of income to rent a place and enough money to keep you secure if you have to stay in a hotel at first. Background checks with out-of-state IDs take more time as well, so that's another factor to consider for employment. I can certainly sympathize with your current situation, so whatever you guys decide to do I wish you the best.

I have completed my inner journey to becoming a full Washingtonian (which is a little confusing since I believe that's the demonym for WA and DC).

How do you like living in DC? I assume it's a very lively and beautiful place, but also incredibly expensive.

I should know better than seeking advice from Atlas (we all know how that goes), but anywho, I have a conundrum. I recently met a girl who has come over with friends to my house twice, and we really have hit it off. I want to invite her over to smoke and listen to some records tonight, but we just hung out on Sunday and Monday; my natural instinct is to do what I always do - play it cool and wait a few days. But now I'm starting to wonder if I dramatically overthink these things.
You should invite her over anyway while being understanding if she's busy but leave the invitation open for later this week.
^ seconding this.

If you're into her, go for it!

This a different one that cut and run a few months ago?

Yep. Her and I said our peace right after all that happened and haven’t spoken since. I met this girl in late August and we hit it off pretty quickly; she’s a cute girl from rural Wisconsin, which is why I’m going to Green Bay after Thanksgiving.

My debit card shows a $42.00 deduction, ostensibly going to The Economist. I did not do this and am incensed. I have no reason to believe my subscription has changed, either.

See, that's what happens when you subscribe to a capitalist magazine. That'll learn ya.
