Why did Reagan do so well in MI 1984? He won it by 19 while underperforming in the Rust Belt overall. Was it due to Japanese steel tariffs helping the autoworkers? Reagan won every county in the lower peninsula except Wayne (most counties won in lower peninsula since Ike 1952). Even Washtenaw, which went for McGovern, went for Reagan.
