Welcome all members of The Social Democratic Party!

We need to lay down some bylaws and a platform (with possible discussion of a name change)! So lets get started with bylaws. I will post a proposal soon.

Anyone with ideas, feel free to post them.

the party will be mainly formed by the members because the actual Light Party has a rather small platfom.

*Bangs gavel* let the first ever SDP convention begin!

Mr. Chairman, once you finish constructing a platform and your by-laws, I request your permission to address the convention.
permission granted. if it gets too close to the election and we have not finished our platform and bylaws, i will be calling for all to speak and then call an emergency endorsement vote.

well, i was going to wait for Q's permission to modify his ACLC platform and use it as ours because im bad at coming up with that stuff, but to get this underway i will post a bylaw proposal and if Q denies my request, i will remove this proposal.
__________________________________________________

A. Any Atlasian may join the Party, subject to approval of a majority of the party.
B. Membership may be petitioned by announcing one’s intentions to join.
C. Any current member may ask to hold a vote on the prospective member’s petition for membership.  If no member requests a vote, the prospective member becomes a member.  If the vote is held, a simple majority vote of voting members is required for the member to attain membership.
D. The Party may expel any member if the members believe that member’s actions to be antithetical to the well-being of the party.  A recall petition must have the signatures of three party members in order to be brought before the electorate in an immediate vote. The vote may begin within forty-eight hours of receiving the required number of signatures.  The member shall be expelled with a two-thirds majority vote of voting members in good standing.
E. A member in good standing shall refer to a member against whom three or more signatures for expulsion have not been gathered.

II. Positions
1. Chair
a. Responsibilities shall include general responsibility for the well-being of the party; acting in the role of any other party leader if he or she is unable or unwilling to carry out the responsibilities of office; organize party conventions; gavel open and to a close all conventions; and act as the primary spokesperson for the party.
2. Vice-Chair/Secretary
a. Responsibilities shall include conducting party elections and other votes, including establishing, opening, and closing voting booths and providing sufficient notice to party members of these votes.
3. Policy Chair
a. Responsibilities shall include maintaining and updating the Platform and Bylaws to reflect changes mandated by votes on member-suggested changes as well as serving as an intra-party leader on policy issues.

III. Voting
A. All votes on new members, leadership positions, endorsements, platform changes, and other issues as they shall arise shall be taken consensually.
B. The Secretary shall open a vote in the Voting Booth section of the Fantasy Elections board.

F. The vote of each member in good standing shall have the same weight in determining the vote outcome.  An approval system shall be used to determining the winner of any vote, such that voters may list all candidates or positions of whom/which they approve.  Order shall not matter, and the candidate or position that receives the greatest number of preferences shall be the winner.
G. Voter intent shall be determined at the end of the voting period.
H. party members may recall any party leadership position.  A recall petition against any position must have the signatures of three members in order to be brought before the electorate in an immediate vote.  The vote may begin within forty-eight hours of receiving the required number of signatures.  The office-holder shall be removed from office with a  majority vote of voting members in good standing.

"A. Any Atlasian may join the Party, subject to approval of a majority of the party."

I am against this, I think anyone should be allowed to join. For now, anyways.
so are proposing we remove it or change it or just stating an opinion?

If I may suggest a few here they are:

The Social Democratic Alliance
Democrats of the Left
Progressive National Party
Congress for Democracy and Progress
Social Democrat Radical Party
Democratic Action Party
Democratic Left Alliance
Democratic Action Party

Those are just some suggestions. Most are the names of actual Socialist and Social Democratic Parties around the world or variations upon them. These are the most interesting and original names I could find most were just the Labour Party or the Socialist Party or the Social Democratic Party. Out of those the one I came up with on my own is the Progressive National Party.
thank you. these, along with Akno's suggestion, will all be on the voting ballot tomorrow

According to the bylaws, (the finished project[after the amendment] is below)we need to elect a Chairman, Vice-Chairman/Secretary, and a policy chair. Anybody up for running? you will have 24 hours to announce AFTER we have at least one candidate running for each position.

SDP Bylaws (Proposed)

Although there are technically no District 4 residents in this party, I will seek the endorsement of the party to maintain good relations.  If elected, I will work for the common good of the people and protect basic rights and liberties; I believe my view on the Pledge of Allegiance, for example, is the closest to this party out of the District 4 Senatorial candidates.
Thank you Ebowed for coming out today to talk to the convention. Since things are moving along so quickly, we will be holding an endorsement vote. Vote Here!

I'm surprised BRTD hasn't joined you yet. Wink

That's because I was at work while this was going on. I'm in now!

Although I'm disappointed I missed the voting on the name. I liked "People's United Front" (take a guess why.) And I would've really liked "True Path Party" if they changed it to Shining Path Party....j/k! Wink (hopefully at least you know what that means)

Maybe I should start a "Revolutionary Armed Forces of Atlasia" Party. But only if it attracted hot female members Wink
would you like to run for Policy Chair?

What would be the duties of that position?

But the original platform will be put together by everyone, it would just be updating it. Once we get someone to run for Policy Chair, we can start on the platform.

so is that a yes? if it is, then anyone else who wants to run for one of those 3 spots has 24 hours to announce unless Akno comes on sooner and announces that he will not be running as he is the  only other person in the party.

So, are we having an election for this, or am I automatically the vice-chair?
if akno doesnt run for Vice-Chair, then you will automatically be Vice-Chair as you would have no opposition.

I'm more surprised that Opebo hasn't decided to join yet......   It seems to me this party should fit him to a T.

Opebo is too economically Conservative for us Cheesy
has a deep hatred and contempt for anyone who has religious faith.
that doesnt fit the party at all, im afraid. i am a very proud Lutheran Christian.
