I chose Liberal, since I don't want Steven Harper to become PM, but I would certainly be open to voting NDP. As an American I have an aversion to third parties, an unfortunate side effect of our system.

I can't believe I'm the first person to vote Liberal Shocked

I'd rather have Harper as PM for awhile if it meant the decline of the Liberals and thus the rise of the NDP rather than put up with just more endless Martinite centrism that'll never be voted out.

If Paul Martin is insufficently left-wing then I'm more centrist than I thought Wink    I can just see Harper and Bush becoming buddies, Harper sending peace keepers to Iraq, etc.....

Conservative; It's time to change and i'd rather not have a minority government; otherwise it'd be NDP.

Why on earth? Minority governments are the best!

Well, if you have an unelected senate, then it would probably be a good idea...but Canada needs stability, and under a government other then the Liberals. One term of Harper is survivable, and necessary. There needs to be a clear, reasonably strong government after the election, and it shouldn't include the liberals.

Boo!!

Your lack of left-wing-edness vexes me

Whats so bad about the Liberals and the NDP? Harper is Pat Buchanan with a better campaign manager.

Do you see now just how conservative Harper and his crew are Hugh? They are just like Bush in 2000, seemingly moderate but actually paleo-cons in disguise.

Thanks to Bono for the great website about Canada.

Wait wait wait... I thought Bush was a neo-con... now we're paleo-cons?  Maybe y'all should get your ideological epithets straight.

I was calling Harper a paleo-con, since he's not a neo-con. Yes the terms get confusing but I knew what I meant. Maybe calling Harper a "moderate conservative" would be better since he's neither close to Bush Jr. or Buchanan ideologically, I think.

And Hugh you're right that other parties winning once and awhile is good for democracy. The problem is, once they win, there's no telling how long they'll last. A lot of people in 2000 thought Bush would be a 1 term president b/c the election was so flawed, yet look what happened.
