I'm surprised.

With the election of Trump, I assumed it would take an opposite turn with more people seeing trade as a threat.

However, this result probably has to with the way Gallup framed the question. I believe most Americans see trade as a good thing, but if you were to poll their opinion on free-trade agreements you might get a less favorable result.
