I haven't read the books in ages, so I can't really speak to them. When it comes to the movies, removing myself from childhood nostalgia, I'd say the Columbus ones are kinda bad. Prisoner of Azkaban is intriguing because Cuarón is helming it, and has at least enough freedom to make a movie that looks and feels entirely different from the others. It kind of jumps around from there, but fittingly peaks at Deathly Hallows: Part II.
In terms of the best post-Williams score, I would like to defend Patrick Doyle's work in Goblet of Fire.
