I think Macron might be trying to gamble that RN's populism makes them collapse under the weight of being a governing party. Bit risky if you ask me.

This is turning into a French version of The Thick of It.

La France Insoumise has shown their willingness to compromise and... graciously deigned to recognize that antisemitism exists. Beyond parody.

Quote from: Le Parisien
The New Popular Front finally agreed on condemning the "terrorist massacres" of Hamas, also calling for "an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and compliance with the order of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which unambiguously refers to a risk of genocide".

It also acknowledges a "worrying, unprecedented explosion" in "racist, anti-Semitic and Islamophobic acts" in France, a clear response to Jean-Luc Mélenchon's disputed statement in early June that anti-Semitism "remains residual in France".

"The fight against racism and anti-Semitism will be "at the heart" of the New Popular Front's project for the legislative elections, PCF national secretary Fabien Roussel promised on Friday.

we stan the PS-PCF anti-nazbol alliance 🌹☭✊

Oh how very graceful of them. Maybe next they'll finally admit that Russia is an evil empire.

Ciotti is under investigation for embezzlement of his campaign funds in the previous legislative election. Womp womp.

Mfw you try to kick out the shadowy people who know all the dirt. Come to think of it it’s not far off the plot of House of Cards.

As you said mate, Veep. The whole thing's just too funny.

I get that in any event he would not be appealing to me personally, but is the French left caught in a spiral in which they have to suck it up and stomach the man, or are there redeemable features? Or is it just Le Pen making Melenchon look acceptable to some by virtue of comparison?

Le Pen wants to solve problems by letting people die or suffer. Mélenchon believes in positive ideals of democracy and egalitarianism. There's a reason young people and Muslims vote for him rather than the PS, and it's not his youth.
If you don't see the difference, you've been had by the both-sideism zeitgeist.

The Russia stuff is a throwaway plank of his platform - he has little interest in foreign affairs (not sure he even speaks English), he just reflexively cannot abide the US dictating French politics.

Le Pen is obviously better than Melenchon and it’s actually quite insane to consider this RN as similar her father’s RN .

Hopefully Macron chooses to work with Le Pen over Melanchon because Macron’s economic policies + a good deal of Le Pen’s immigration ones is exactly what France needs right now

Macron's anti-worker policies are a big reason why he's so unpopular right now.

France actually needs to increase their retirement age to like 65(which would still be more liberal than our one), increase the work week to 40 hours, and reform the labor markets.

In fact I would say what I think France needs with the coalition I proposed is basically a Thatcher of France

Thatcher is remembered as an extremely divisive PM to say the very least and in the north, is still very much hated. There is a reason why a certain song from The Wizard of Oz was played up there when she died.

Yeah this is exactly what I was talking about the other day.

SURVEY - LR supporters in favor of an alliance with the RN (article in french).

While the party officials' universal condemnation of Ciotti's move might have given the impression that no one supports him, polling is in fact showing that over half of the party is with him.

While the question wasn't asked, I'm willing to bet that less than 10% of republicains would vote for an LFI candidate against an RN candidate and it makes sense ideologically.

Centrists will always choose fascism first.
