Four years ago, Vice President George H. W. Bush defeated Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis to continue the Republican reign over the White House. The Democrats have not won a presidential election since 1976, and with Bush's approval rating skyrocketing after the Gulf War, many are doubtful that this is the year they take it back. There also looms the spectre of a possible third-party candidacy, as voters begin to look beyond their regular options . . .

Potential Republican Candidates
President George H. W. Bush (terp40hitch)

Mr Pat Buchanan

Others available at request

Potential Democratic Candidates
-Governor Bill Clinton of Arkansas

-Former Governor Jerry Brown of California (Devout Centrist, endorsed by Rep. Ron Dellums)

-Former Senator Paul Tsongas of Massachusetts (JacksonHitchcock, endorsed by Sen. Ted Kennedy)

-Senator Bob Kerrey of Nebraska

-Senator Tom Harkin of Iowa (Gorguf, endorsed by Sen. Paul Wellstone)

-Senator Al Gore of Tennessee (jakobisgood)

-Governor Mario Cuomo of New York (Elcaspar, endorsed by Sen. Harris Wofford)

-Reverend Jesse Jackson

-Senator Max Baucus of Montana (New Tennessean Politician, endorsed by Sen. Bob Graham)

-Governor Anne Richards of Texas (Mycoo, endorsed by Sen. Lloyd Bentsen)

-Former Representative Geraldine Ferraro (NyIndy)

Others available at request

Potential Independent Candidates

-Mr H. Ross Perot

-Mr Ralph Nader (Ishan, endorsed by Tupac Shakur)

Others available at request

Rules
-Turns will last for 72 hours. This can be extended by 24 hours upon request, and can be extended by another 12 after if there are extenuating circumstances.

-You can request two endorsements per turn and no more.

-You can opt to have an "opening endorser", someone who will endorse your campaign at your announcement speech.

-As this game begins in August 1991, we will use one in-game month per turn until February 1992, when a turn will be equal to one in-game week. Hopefully this will stop people from losing interest in a slow-moving game.

-Each ad you put out or speech you make has a chance of either working well, doing nothing or backfiring. Remember this and be mindful.

-That's it! Remember to have fun as well.

All are granted, though we really need a Republican.

I'll give a tentative yes. We really need someone as George Bush at the bare minimum.

Worse come to worse, he could be an NPC and you could do dice rolls for his turn.

Makes sense.

Sign-ups close in 24 hours, at which point this will turn into a commentary thread and we can get started.

For the record, i would recommend that everyone start posting announcement speeches as well. Remember, you can request an opening endorser who will back you at your announcement speech.

Can I be a fictional version of a real person?

I'm kinda reluctant to allow that at this point. We still are yet to even get someone as George Bush.

Not too unrealistic

I know. I'd just prefer we had someone playing as the incumbent President at this point.

I'm reluctant on allowing more Democrats until we get at least one Republican.

From my PoV I'd argue against Kerry, Tsongas has the support of Sen. Kennedy the biggest name in MA politics, and Kerry succeded Tsongas in the Senate so it just doesn't play good optics.

This is my point of view as well. With Kennedy lining up behind Tsongas, Kerry stands little to no chance.

Done and done.

I've decided to accelerate the timetable with Bush now in it. I am writing up the first term now.

I would just like to add,  if it is ok with GoTfan, that Bush is not officially running yet. Bush, if he is not doing presidential duties is most likely either fundraising with other candidates or campaigning for other candidates.

I think I will have Bush announce a run in January or Febuary

Yes, this is more than acceptable. Historically, Bush did not launch his campaign until early 1992.

24 hours left.

And no problem mate. Work comes before anything else. I'll go with the idea that Gore is flirting with a run but yet to decide.

Honestly with so few people actually posting, I'll probably just declare this dead.
