Opinion of PSOL/Do you agree with his mute?

This should be interesting, since we haven't had a poll as to whether the mute itself was proper while PSOL's done little to improve his reputation by spamming half the forum which has no control over how he's sanctioned.

I was pretty neutral about the mute since I'm mostly going by secondhand knowledge of the situation, although I did see the "Zionists are Nazis" post before it got moderated. I can't say the PM made me more sympathetic; to me it's more amusing and pathetic than anything.

I don't agree with PSOL on anything and don't know him on a personal level, he's been nothing but polite and civil with me. His comments were definitely infractable and I don't agree with them, the issue is more the inconsistency of application.

I'm pretty torn on how this was handled with the information I have. A couple weeks ago I sent the mod team evidence that another certain user supports the KKK. That user remains unsanctioned as of now despite having recently made several moderated posts, and I'm a little disappointed that PSOL got the axe while he has not. That said, I never cared for PSOL's style or had a particularly high opinion of him and this incident hasn't changed that.

It depends on what exactly he said. We have people running around on this forum like fuzzy who don’t get muted so it’s odd that someone who is anti-Israel got muted. If it was a personal attack on a poster I can understand that. If he just said zionists are nazis without attacking any particular poster, I am not sure that warrants a mute. Worse has been said on this forum and when it is immigrants or Muslims being attacked the mods just look the other way to make sure all views are represented or some such nonsense.

This is true. The next person who refers to undocumented immigrants as "invaders" or LGBT activists as "groomers" (without evidence of actual grooming) should receive an equal sanction, if we're being consistent.

PSOL was attacking a specific poster and even setting aside this incident of extreme anti-Semitism, he has an absolutely abysmal track record of prior sanctions for racism, personal attacks, posting links to pornography, etc.  So those aren’t really the same thing. 

Frankly, the problem with the mute isn’t that he was muted, it’s that is absurdly over-lenient and at odds with the policy of escalating sanctions that he didn’t receive at least a 6 month tempban.  If Jaichind’s Axis sympathizing and Holocaust denial are going to be handwaived away with less than a slap on the wrist in the name of incremental escalation then when someone like PSOL who on paper has burned through all their strikes already only gets a month long mute for something like this, it makes the whole thing seem at least somewhat arbitrary.  However, to the extent there was arbitrariness and inconsistency, it was very much in favor of PSOL rather than at his expense in this case.

I will admit to not seeing the personal attack and only the "Zionists" post shortly before it was moderated. If PSOL built up a paper trail, then I can see the justification for his case.

I also forgot about the porn link incident. What went through his head when he not only posted it, but posted it in one of the user complaints/mod issues/bans threads (I forget which) where mods are guaranteed to see and infract it is beyond me.
