Assuming this is the thread to campaign in, I'll post my speech here.
*ahem*
Friends and fellow Laborites, and particularly those of the Northern Region, the other week I announced my candidacy to be your senator because I was concerned that our region was lacking a voice in our government. I respect Senator Smith and have supported him in the past, but I feel it is essential that our party nominates a candidate who can be a full-time legislator and a reliable advocate for progressive values.
We must protect the woman's right to choose. As a private citizen, I have advocated against the abortion restrictions bill currently on the floor of the House. In the coming weeks, the House will deliberate on another bill that strips Planned Parenthood, a nonprofit organization serving millions of Atlasians each year, of all federal funding. This is not something we as progressives can accept for our country. This radical anti-choice agenda must be challenged head-on.
Healthcare is a fundamental human right. Once again, I have used my influence as a private citizen to push for comprehensive, universal reform with Senator Blair and others that will expand coverage while simultaneously reducing costs.
I have written an outline of the kind of reform I would pursue as a member of Congress, and it will be one of my top priorities as your senator.
For the sake of brevity, I will close my speech in asking my fellow Laborites to continue to spread our message in each level of government, from city councils to congressional seats and beyond. I hope to receive the blessing of my countrymen in the North to join Senator Blair in advocating for poor and middle-class families in the Atlasian Senate.
Thank you.
