Not to sound like I'm projecting anything, but I'm beginning to see Christie as the next Giuliani - the popular Northeast executive who was perceived to be the GOP's guy a few years before the election but saw his support dwindle and ended up not carrying a single primary state.  The bridge scandal has partly to do with it, but there was already enough disdain for him on the right and his personality is enough of a roadblock to prevent him from becoming president.  This may be the tipping point, especially if Christie is found to have had a role.

Christie is denying that he personally tried to pursue the endorsement of the mayor.

Could the high unemployment in New Jersey hurt him more in the GOP primary?

He'll just blame the legislature.  Massachusetts had a high unemployment rate when Romney was governor, but that didn't stop him from winning the nomination.

It is only going to get worse for Christie when they really start vetting this guy in a year. I remember the Romney campaign didn't want him due to the amount of skeletons he has in the closet.

Crazier sh**t has happen, but I don't think he will win the nomination.

I think I recall hearing somewhere that one of the reasons Christie wasn't picked as Romney's veep is that he had skeletons in his closet already.

Honestly, I don't see Scott Walker becoming the establishment republican, I have the feeling some scandals could be revealed because of him. The next establishment republican will probably be Paul Ryan.

Ryan, IIRC, wants to seek a higher spot in the House.  He's very unlikely to run unless he changes his mind.
