I was thinking about this earlier.  Had the GOP not asked Clint Eastwood to speak, but instead someone of his caliber (or at least, a few points below his caliber), would it have been as embarrassing or controversial?  Voight's spoken at Republican events before and sounds just as paranoid and misled as the next guy, but I figure a speech from him wouldn't gain nearly enough attention to make it basically the only highlight of the event.  At most, it would probably sound slightly more polarizing than all the other speeches.
