--Nashville has a large music scene, being the country music capital of the world.  Consequently, it pulls in a lot of aspiring musicians and other "artists".  These people tend to be younger and more socially progressive, so they vote Democratic.  It that regard, Nashville is a lot like Austin, Texas. 

That's exactly the reason why the Democraticness surprises me.
Musical preferences don't necessarily determine how someone votes.  Personally, I'm a huge country music fan and support Democrats.
