Wow, the Democrat's support basically doubles when Koike's team is removed, and that says something.

The most recent free-fall of Abe cabinet approval due to the anti-conspiracy bill and yet another school scandal can only be bad news for LDP in Tokyo a couple of weeks before the election.

The LDP strategy so far has been to nationalize the Tokyo race to try to counter Koike's local appeal by Abe's high popularity.  Now that popularity is, for now, gone into reverse the LDP might have to go back to a grassroots localized race strategy to try to save some seats.
Holy sh**t... What sort of effect do you think we should see in the polls? Maybe a spike in No Party?

Isn't the DP surging in the closing week the norm though?

Koike is 54 points above in the approval ratings, comparing to -13 for Abe in Tokyo?!

There is no way Koike will win in anything other than at least a substantial victory.

LDP to have their worst result in history, and could fall as low as 13 seats.

Japan's elections make Australia's seem like Usain Bolt when he runs the 100 meters...

Part of it is because what is on NHK are fairly late compared to the data at the local count centers.  This is why a lot of times the media calls the race for one candidate when the other candidate is ahead on the NHK count.
Makes sense.

Also, are NHK rounding up the individual candidates vote totals to the nearest 500 or something?

So the center-left could have done a little bit better if the nominations went their way?

NNN poll has Abe cabinet approval approval/disapproval down to 31.9%(-7.9%)/49.2%(+7.4%).  A record low

If this continues, he'll probably be gone by year's end.

Are these results going to make a difference in the national scope though?
