If Donald Trump wasn't the Republican nominee in 2016, would Russia have still tried to influence the 2016 presidential election. If yes, how and in favor of which candidate would Russia do it?

Absolutely. The Kremlin has a legendary hatred for Hillary Clinton and wanted her to lose more than anything.

Even if her GOP opponent was either Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush or John Kasich, all hawkish neoconservative Republicans who would have adopted an agressive foreign policy towards Russia?
