I guess it's clear going forward that GOP has no room for anyone that doesn't worship the Donald God.

Repeating Trump's big lie of a stolen election has become a litmus test in Republican politics these days. They have learned nothing of the insurrection and continue to embrace fascism, nativism and the personality cult. The Republican Party is an utter joke.

"Herd think."

We need herd immunity from them.

McCarthy's weak and inept responses remind me of the drawn-out dethroning of Theresa May. It seems he can neither defend or move against Cheney, and he's doing a pretty poor job of smoothing over tensions to boot. This reflects badly on his competency as a caucus leader and even if I were in ideological harmony with the guy, I'd be itching to have him replaced.

This whole saga also helps to demonstrate why he was passed over as Speaker back in 2015 in favor of Paul Ryan. The Republican caucus has never had a great amount of confidence in his abilities.

McCarthy just goes wherever the wind blows him. He is no leader. He's a wannabe leader who doesn't have what it takes to run with the big boys (and Liz Cheney). I think of him as a sleazy person.

Stefanik will believe or say whatever she needs to to advance. For a while there it seemed like being ""moderate"" was the way to go in her district and she leaned towards that. Now that Trump-worshipping is the guiding ideology of the GOP she's gone all-in on that, objecting to the election, trying to oust Cheney for her opposition to him. In the unlikely event that the party starts to shift away from Trump in a major way she'll be right there when it happens. She's a weather vane.

No character or convictions.

She's in the wrong party. Maybe she should just go write a book or run a company. I think she'd be happier.

The present GOP is poisoned with trump kooties, and nothing can seem to penetrate them. Nothing that is real or valuable anyway.

I would also like to put in a snort about the fact that she is a female. It's easier to pound on females than it is on males. Am I wrong?

Liz has many things going against her right now, and her gender is one of the big stumbling blocks, in my opinion. Is that the way it's supposed to be? No, but that's reality.

Are you saying you want her in the Democratic Party?  lmao

That partisan Democrats would welcome Liz Cheney with open arms shows how reflexively animated they are by (anti-) Trumpism

She doesn't belong anywhere right now. See my post. She needs to go write a book or run a company. Get out of politics for now. She's a hot potato.

The New York Times has run no less than three profiles on Liz Cheney in the past eight weeks, including a story that ran this morning under this editorializing headline: "House Republicans Have Had Enough of Liz Cheney's Truth-Telling."  That's some pretty positive framing to be coming from the all-liberal-all-the-time NYT, given Cheney's leading role in actually orchestrating and passing Republicans' legislative agenda during Trump's time in office (she turned on him only once he was a lame duck.)

As has been proven these past six years, the only criterion for becoming a hero to Democrats is superficially rebuffing Trump's most bafoonish and offensive impulses.  Democrats won slim majorities in 2018 and 2020 with campaigns that amounted to nothing more serious than simple character assassination, and they have the contorted messaging on immigration, race/gender and taxes to show for it.  Y'all are standing around applauding Liz Cheney because what she represents (i.e., vacuous overtures against Trump and Trumpism) is the only animating principle you have left.

Thank you for posting that. Gave me such fun giggles.

I’m surprised how quickly this is taking place, knives have been sharpened for a while. I think this is the beginning of the end of her political career, she’s gonna lose the primary. Once you’re the darling of the online left an NYT it’s a wrap

She'll find something better suited to her strong talents. She will not be happy in a party full of cowards.

This is hilarious.

It really goes to show just how far this party has sunken. Your principles don't matter, just your loyalty to Donald Trump.

Good thing the majority of voters aren't going down that road. Sanity prevails.
