I oppose it because money is not the answer. At the root of the problem is a deep wound that needs healing. On all sides. No amount of money can do that. After the money is spent or saved or invested, what then? The deep wound will still be there, festering because it wasn't healed.

Let's start an honest conversation and go from there. Are people ready to do that? I believe that is how this needed healing will begin.

I believe that everyone has been affected in negative ways down through time by that ignorant and shameful period in our history. The wrongs perpetrated against blacks back then is embedded in our national consciousness, in our psychology, and still affects us today. A national healing needs to take place, as well as individual healing before we can move forward.

How does a one time cash payment help future generations or level the playing field? The same issues facing the African American community will continue to exist long after that check is cashed. Long term investments and structural changes need to be implemented. Cash reparations accomplish nothing except as a way for candidates to pander for votes.
