This is hard for a socialist like myself to get past, but defenders of Cynthia Nixon insist that her comments were taken out of context and she was really attacking pro-Cuomo unions from the left

Right but her comments are directed toward "the unions" needing to get real and be fiscally responsible is not directed to the TWU specifically.  It's unusual to hear this language from a self-described democratic socialist.

yeah, the proper line here is "I understand that TWU has to go with Cuomo to protect their members, but rest assured I'm a friend of labor. As governor, I'll stop the games Albany has been playing with the subway in a way that protects the riders and the workers who make it all possible first."

But yes, TWU is a sclerotic hive of labor clientelism. It's a shame that they don't have a TDU like entity within their ranks :/
