Option 2 easily. The Republicans are a dying breed in New England, let alone in any position to win anything. The Democrats are stronger in Dixie than the Republicans are in RI. In many southern states, the state Democratic party is actually quite strong, and given the right environment and the right candidate can break through to the federal level, as well. The Republicans in the Northeast are a hopeless case.
