I can buy an entire Detroit city block for $20.

You used to be able to purchase a house for the price of a VCR in Cleavland... but since Lebron moved, you could buy a block for about that there too..

Also, 75 grand.. for a house?! Damn, thats 1/10th of what one costs around here.

Yeah, we're cheap!  I got very lucky getting this for that little.  My mortgage payments are only $587.49 which is much less than some apartment rent payments.

I pay almost double that ($1,075) for a 1 bedroom basement apartment.  Its a decent size, and could have gotten something smaller, but even then a studio apt here would still be more than your mortgage payment.

The average rent for a studio apartment here is in the vicinity of $300.  The apartment I had for the first 8 months of 2009 was a 2-bedroom for only $405 a month.  Of course, it was in a bad part of town, but still it was nice and cheap.

My cheapest apartment was a one bedroom for $265 and that was in college in Alva, Oklahoma.

Well, you can scratch the call center off the list.  They sent me a rejection letter this morning by E-MAIL of all avenues.  That was repulsive to say the least.  Oh well, after moaning and groaning for a half hour, I got dressed and went back to the interview circuit.  I went to take a couple tests today for the mortgage csr and the loan counselor position that I looked at last week.  They should let me know an interview time with the client by Monday.  I've also got another interview Monday afternoon at 2:00.  There is still a chance the Water Analyst job may call me back tomorrow with their final decision.  If they want me, then I would start Monday at 9:00 am.  That would pay $2,500 a month, once a month.

Good luck, Jeff.

F**king seriously. This is going too long.

Trust me, I know.  I'm thinking if the water analyst position calls me tomorrow in the affirmitive, I'm going to pounce on it.

Opie, not everything is as bad as you think it is in America.  It's definitely not "the bad place".  In fact, Oklahoma offers a very bright future for her citizens.  I still want to move in a couple years, but it's not because Oklahoma is somehow lagging behind the rest of the nation.

In terms of a lot of interviews, it's a combination of temp agencies and the fact that I'm constantly taking to a potential employer or looking in the newspaper.

While one job fell through today, I did pick up 3 more interviews in the pipeline.  I've got one tomorrow morning at 9:00, one Monday at 2:00, and another Wednesday at 1:30.  Not to mention, I still have that job that may call me tomorrow telling me to start Monday.

I still think government work is the best thing to do here Bushie.  Telemarketing isn't steady employment.  Nobody buys sh**t off the phone anymore.  Internet has it beat.

I'm staying away from telemarketing.  I know the difference between call centers and telemarketing.  Call centers deal primarily in the area of customer support for the business they serve.  Telemarketing interrupts people's dinners and just want to take money out of the pocket of the victim.

A lot of places will call themselves call centers even though they are really telemarketers.

This is true, but I'm pretty good at picking apart the differences.

A recap of this Friday's activities.  I had two interviews this morning, nothing spectacular, but I filled out a couple applications, and I just filled out a third application just now.

The third application I put in today was a call center that a lady from church applied to and was accepted.  It is a logistics company for a trucking company basically telling truck drivers where to get their freight and where to unload it.  She said it's super simple.  She said that she put in her resume online on a Monday night at 8:15 and she had an e-mail scheduling a phone interview by 8:00 am Tuesday morning.  She had the phone interview and had the final, in-person, interview that Thursday and got the job.  She said she could have done the final interview on Tuesday afternoon, but she was working at her current job, so they were basically waiting on her.  She said it is very easy to get on there.  The pay is $11.50/hr plus shift differential plus benefits.  The next training class begins Monday, September 13.  I just put the application in at 4:15 Friday evening, so I will see if there is anything in my inbox Monday morning.

I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to pick up a good job within the next two weeks, hopefully before the end of this week.  The reason I say that is I've got at least three very good leads, plus other interviews, so it's very likely that one of those leads will pan out.  One is a Mortgage CSR, one is a Loan Counsellor, and the third is a Customer Service Rep.  I'd really like to have the third one (the trucking company), but I'll take just about whatever I can get for right now.

For some reason, I have a very good feeling about this week.  I've got a good feeling that something good is going to happen in the way of employment.

Did God tell you this?

No, but he's given me the peace I need and the financial wherewithal.

Maybe you should try something else for change?

Haha, I have too soft a heart for that job!!  I might get the job, but the president and prison officials might get so frustrated with my soft heart that they might let me swing, too.

Had a pretty good day, and still not done for the evening.  I went to an interview at 2:00 today and then applied with the State of Oklahoma at 3:00.  I've got another interview tonight at 6:30 at a local bank.

The interview Monday evening was more of a job fair to set up for a more personal and more formal interview later.  So, it really didn't get me any closer than I was before 6:30.

Assuming BushOklahoma is a real person, he's probably honest when asked about it. This may also explain why none of these many interviews have panned out...

Actually, I'm kind of twisting it.  I'm saying I had a family emergency that required all my time, but by the time I got back the position had been replaced.

How the hell do you confuse a job fair and an interview??

Because, sometimes there can be interviews at job fairs.

Well, I have another interview for a customer service position today at 1:00 that requires me to wear a suit.  Thankfully, I have a suit to wear.

Call centers in Oklahoma require you to wear a suit? LOL, good thing I don't live there.

Minnesota has kind of a reputation for being rather casual about this sort of thing. In fact dressing up can be considered rude if the circumstances don't really call for it.

This is not really a call center, it's just customer service.  I'm going to investigate what that means when I go for the interview.  Call centers around here are generally business casual with jeans allowed on Friday and Saturday at some places.

Uh, so call centers have a dress code at all? Most people wear jeans all week at mine, including management.

Most do have a dress code.  There are some that are jeans and t-shirts, but most are shirt and slacks.  When I'm going to work, I prefer to be dressed in shirts and slacks anyway as it makes me feel better about myself.  They say psychology plays an important role as to how a person will do on a job, and I believe I perform better if I'm not constantly wearing jeans and looking like I just rolled out of bed.

Dude, how do you deal with it when someone is like, ' I want my f'in money back you scam artist' or something similar?

I handle it calmly and professionally.  I just sit there and listen to it, but I try to end the call as fast as I can so I can move on to the next call.

I just got back from the interview and everything is looking REALLY good there!!  It is a front desk receptionist position for a marketing compnay (I'm not doing the marketing!!).  It would pay $10.00/hr + full benefits.  He wants me in for a second interview tomorrow at 11:30 and said I would know yay or nay by 1:00.  If he wants me, he said I would have orientation tomorrow from 1:00-5:00 and Thursday and Friday 10-5.  It sounds promising because he told me to clear my schedule for the rest of the week.  The normal hours would be your standard 8-5 M-F.

So, I may be off the unemployment rolls within the next 24 hours!!

Wow... thats just a horrible, horrible lie. You do realize that they can call the company find out your dates of employment... so that doesnt sound too reassuring.
Not only that but because of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Family_Medical_Leave_Act, your story is not even plausible.

Yup, pretty much anyone who is in a position to hire someone is going to know about that, or look it up.

I forgot about the FMLA (and I used it at the end of 2009, myself).  Wow, that doesn't show me in a good light, now does it?  Anyway, from here on out, the truth will go on the apps in the form similar to what jamespol advised.  Here's still hoping, though, the interview from today pans out.  If it does, I won't have to worry about it.  My apologies to the forum for telling a complete fib on my apps.  I'm supposed to be a preacher, and that doesn't exactly make a preacher, or anyone for that matter, look good at all.

Anyway, if today's interview works, then I'll have paychecks starting to roll in around Labor Day, hopefully.
