Phil, relax, my brother is just voicing his opinion.  He is allowed to say that Italian pizza is horrible.  There is no need to get all up in arms about that comment.  Letting it get to you is a sign that he's owning you.

Grumps, I just had a small breakfast and will leave a little earlier than planned this evening to eat before I bowl.  I will likely eat at the bowling alley.  I never asked Grandma to do my laundry, but she probably is anyway.

But seriously what did/will you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner today?

I just had a couple bowls of cereal for breakfast.  No lunch.  I don't know about supper, yet.

I did not say several.  I said a couple.  Couple equals two.

I realize the bowling alley food would be horrid.  And, no, that question didn't come to mind.  I'm only in Tulsa one more night, maybe not even that.  I'm thinking about going home after we get through bowling at 2000.  I'm trying to think of a place that I could go that would provide at least better food than the bowling alley.  The only places I can think of are Golden Corral or Delta Cafe.  At least at either place I could get some vegetables and better cuts of meat with my food.  I'm not really wanting a burger tonight, plus I fully realize if I want to eat better, the burgers are going to have to be cut way back.

About lunch, what if I have an early supper, like 1530 or 1600?  That would give me 2 - 2 1/2 hours before I start bowling so the food won't be as heavy in my stomach.

I did a couple loads of laundry earlier this past Tuesday, and I told her I would do it again Sunday afternoon when I'm home, but I doubt she'll listen to me.

I'm not sure why my brother has those on.  Perhaps it's just a tongue-in-cheek type thing.  When I saw him last May, he wore regular men's glasses like I do.

Forgot you were in Tulsa. I'd still recommend ground turkey, turkey bacon and whole wheat bread for Granny's house.

Do you eat sushi?

I don't eat sushi.

Is it because you think you won't like it, or because you've actually tried multiple types and don't like it?

Keep in mind, excessive processed food over long periods of time effect your taste buds.

I've tried it before, but never found it tasty or filling.  Part of the reason I don't eat Oriental food at all.

Phil is also allowed to voice his opinion that your brother's taste buds are garbage. Freedom of speech works both ways like that. Any Italian or Italian-American (I myself am half Italian) will tell you that anyone who thinks chef boyarde is comparable (let alone better) than real pizza is delusional. To people like me and Phil who have grown up around real pizza, it's not just a matter of disagreement to hold an opinion as ridiculous as your brother's, it's actively insulting to hear someone say that cheap processed garbage that some faceless corporation froze, shipped out, and is now marketing as "pizza," is better than the pizza that our ancestors have spent centuries perfecting with fresh ingredients, and hard work. (another thing you seem to be lacking in knowledge of)

So yes, please at least allow our friend Phil to be as angry as he wants, because it is not simply a "difference of opinion."

All this debate makes me want to try real, Italian pizza just so I can have a legitimate say in the debate for or against.

My starting weight on this journey yesterday morning was 287 1/2.  I will weigh again Monday morning when I get to the same scales.  I am using Grandma's scales which is an actual scale such as you would see in a doctor's office.  It's not a digital scale.

Week 4 of work will, of course, be a short week because of Thanksgiving.  I will have Thursday and Friday off.  This will be a fun week of holiday festivities.  It all starts tomorrow morning after I get back down to Midwest City.  Thanksgiving Sunday is tomorrow at Eastwood Baptist Church.  At 1700 tomorrow evening is our all-church Thanksgiving Dinner in lieu of our evening service.  Monday night doesn't have a whole lot to it, but Tuesday is our Thanksgiving 2014 Worship Service at Eastwood at 1830.  Wednesday night, the beginning of the weekend, I will be putting up my parents' Christmas Tree and spending the night with them.  Mom and I will get up early Thanksgiving morning and go on over to Grandma's to start fixing dinner.  Our family friend, Nita, will be coming over around mid-morning and we'll play some games (probably Skip-Bo) until dinner time which will likely be around 1300.  Dad will join us late in the morning to carve the turkey.  After dinner, we'll probably play some more games and have dessert (Pumpkin Pie and Lemon Meringue Pie) and then everybody will go home mid to late afternoon and then I will put up Grandma's Christmas Tree and get out her Christmas dishes and decorations.

...has anyone dared to ask how The Diet will be affected this Thursday?

Like Paul said, I'm not going to think about the diet on Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day.  Tomorrow night will be kind of tough with our all church Thanksgiving Dinner, but since it is not a holiday, I will try to spare myself too much.

Bushie,

Consider getting your protein intake from more non-meat sources since the meat sources you eat are so horrific and unhealthy (bottom-of-the-barrel/cow ground beef that's probably 90% fat; chicken coated in grease, batter and salt derived from a chicken that met its grim fate in a Heartland processing facility getting ripped apart by overweight schmucks not terribly different from yourself).

Being an Ay-rab, I often simply use hummus in lieu of meat - today my lunch was fresh vegetables with hummus, and an apple. Lentils are another very versatile option.

Is your brother a Fat like you?

I am not going vegetarian or less meat.  That one is out.

My brother just retired from 20 years in the US Navy.  No, he's not a fat.  If anything, he could probably stand to put on a bit.

What will you have for thanksgiving dinner?

Turkey, both white and dark meat
Mashed Potatoes
Stove top stuffing
Green Beans
Corn
Gravy
Dinner Rolls
Iced Tea

Pumpkin Pie
Lemon Meringue Pie
Pecan Pie

For Christmas substitute ham instead of turkey.  All the sides and desserts are the same.

What did Christ eat on His birthday? Nothing. How about you follow His example as you celebrate His birth.

Ha!  You're funny!!

The beef is probably 30% fat prior to cooking.  Thats why restaurant burgers are always tastier than homemade.

Bushies problem is a lack of exercise and too many simple carbs.

Try this Jeff: eat all the turkey you can stomach.  Have one small scoop of anything starchy (stuffing, potatoes, corn, bread, etc).

You can even drench the turkey in gravy.  But you'll have eaten a high protein, high fat, low carb Thanksgiving dinner and no doubt will have still enjoyed it very much.

That actually sounds delicious!!  I may do that!

C'mon guys, there's nothing wrong with pigging out and enjoying yourself on holidays, especially holidays known for mega-feasts like Thanksgiving and Christmas, as long as you behave yourself the rest of the year.  It's two days out of the year you can eat like a fatso and have no regrets.  One also does not have to go vegetarian to eat healthier.  Red meat is not bad if eaten in moderation.

Yet again, you say you're going to diet and then proceed to add a bunch of caveats that make it totally worthless.

Not going to cut back on meat...not going to change anything about Thanksgiving/Christmas...still no mention of any exercise of any kind...having a Quarter Pounder is perfectly fine because you skipped the fries...

...so basically you've done jack sh*t. You're not fooling anyone.

What I am doing that you mentioned is no different than what our very own King has recommended and "approved" in previous seasons of the Update.

My suggestion is that you should rebalance your diet to include more protein while keeping fat about the same and cutting back on carbs.

Turkey, white meat or dark, with little or no skin (a little bit is okay...) is basically perfect food for someone trying to eat a healthier diet.

And if you drink your iced tea unsweetened and you enjoy it... KEEP DRINKING THAT.

Once in a while, I will put a small packet of Splenda in my tea if I'm in the mood, but I do not like already sweetened tea, nor do I like real sugar in my tea.

How many of you have ever had 2 bowls of cereal in one sitting? I can't say I ever have.

That's normal for me, especially if the bowl is small.  Occasionally, I'll pour a third bowl if I'm really hungry.  I remember as an elementary-school kid I downed 8 bowls of cereal in one sitting.  That's my record and something I cannot do anymore due to my lactose semi-intolerance.

Dare I ask what particular brand of fiber-less, nutrition-less lumps of sugar you call 'cereal'?

Usually frosted mini-wheats.

I've made my decision and I'm going to go on back home tonight after I bowl so I can make sure I'm up in time for Sunday School tomorrow.  I should leave Tulsa by 2015 and be home by 2215/2230.
