J-Mann,

I've done all of that and a bag of chips.  I readily admit I've been lazy outside the office and that's partly the reason I'm likely being let go.  I know things have got to change in many areas if I want a successful career in any field, not just CAD.  These are things I can change quite easily, but I've got to start and I will start as soon as I get home in a few hours.  I should be home by 1600 and I'll start applying for those jobs and maybe work on my CAD for an hour or so after the game tonight.

So then why did you blast us this morning for telling you this?

I was trying to convince myself that I was just fine.  My conscience got the better of me.

Most minimum wage workers are more industrious, more competent, and more reliable than you. Your condescending attitude toward their work (and, it seems, toward any work that isn't white collar) is both unjustifiable and an obstacle to your own success. Why do you deserve better than they do? Why are you more valuable than they are?

I'm not purposefully trying to put down their value in society.  I'm just saying I can't survive on minimum wage.  I need at least $11 or $12 an hour to even have a shot at paying my bills.

Seriously, guys, I know where my career is headed.  It is headed in a good direction.  I have a few corrections I need to make, but I'm on my way to something good.  The future is brighter than it's ever been.

maybe work on my CAD for an hour or so after the game tonight.

Jeff, at this point you are basically the Baghdad Bob of your life. You think things are fine when they're not. You think they're going well when it's quite obvious they aren't.

The future is brighter than it's ever been? Well, you weren't about to get fired a few weeks ago, so I'd say your future was brighter a few weeks ago than it is now.

You haven't changed your attitude at all. You're still going to spend all your time napping, watching TV and going to church, and if you have an extra hour to spare when all that's done you'll do some half-hearted CAD work or job searching. I'm not calling your abilities into question. I'm calling your judgment into question and pointing out that your priorities are totally screwed up.

Since when does four places to apply to tonight and two places tomorrow consider to be "half-hearted" job searching?

Do you have a learning disability or something, Jeff?

To some degree, yes

Again, I've said this before, but apparently you didn't listen.  I was away from my resume all weekend.  It was on my main computer at home, and I was on my laptop 100 miles away at my parents.  I didn't have access to update the resume and apply.  So, I did a search on Friday night and found a few places I can apply to tonight now that I'm back home on my main computer, which includes my family's company, and I found the two places I will go tomorrow morning.

You're not going to get an answer to either.

You don't have skills or a work ethic that merits more than minimum wage.

I disagree on the skills, but I will agree that my resume is not worth much more than minimum wage, but it doesn't mean I should stick to low-wage jobs.

So far in the 2 1/2 hours I have been home, I have updated my resume and sent in two applications, one of them to this family member's company.  I am still looking for other jobs to apply to.  I am about to grab some dinner and then get back to the job hunt.

I know I have many doubters on this forum, but I must focus on what I know I can and need to do and not let all the negativity get to me and get me down.

Bushie, why don't you try to get a pizza delivery job? It's the easiest $12/hour ever. Plus you get to eat garbage for free. And you can still watch all the tv you want on your own time. No boring personal development required. It's perfect.
This is a serious suggestion. Will you consider pizza delivery?

If I get desperate.

BushOklahoma, have you thought about being a D.J.? All you have to do is click a button on a computer, drape some headphones around your neck and repeatedly bob your head up and down. You don't have to get up and you'll get tons of girls.

Only problem with that, is the repeated head-bobbing would create a migraine above all migraines and then I'd have to call into work...

So far tonight in 2 hours of job searching, I have applied for/sent in resumes for 4-5 jobs.  I've still got those two places I will go visit tomorrow morning.  I sent in a resume on one of them this evening, too, so when I go in and see them tomorrow, they will already have my resume.

Even if I get fired on Tuesday, I can almost immediately turn the page and turn over a new leaf with October 2014 beginning in just 52 hours.

BK, I will definitely keep that in mind.   Let me look for CADD jobs outright for a little while, maybe through middle October and then if I have no good prospect, I'll go your route.  If I haven't been hired anywhere by October 15, then I'll apply at Walmart.   Thanks for the offer, I may be using it!

No, don't need one.

Here's a possible "job" that'd work well for Bushie. Medical companies often do studies and pay pretty well for them, you can make over $1000 for something that just requires a 72-96 hour on-site stay and after that about 4-5 once a week or every two week checkups. I see them advertised all the time in alternative publications. The only reason I haven't signed up for one is they don't work well with someone who's employed full time and no doubt mostly rely on unemployed people who have infinite free time, but as this is Bushie....plus with all his medical problems he'd be a goldmine.

A job as a lab rat? No, thank you!!

Here's an example: http://www.prismresearchinc.com/about-us/studies/#/?study=study1415

It requires basically to be locked in on site for over a week, but after that just 9 1-2 hour visits, and it pays almost $3000!

But of course Bushie wouldn't meet the BMI requirements. Didn't consider that. Of course I'm sure there's plenty of studies requiring obese subjects.

You want to pump Jeff full of untested pharmaceuticals?! Are you trying to kill him?!

Don't worry, I'm not taking a job as a lab rat!

BK, you've convinced me.  If you can help me through the hiring process, I'm willing to give it a try.  Let me finish this football game that's almost to the 4th quarter and I'll apply for the job and do whatever I need to do.

Sounds good, I'll PM you after the game.  If you could PM me the link and the exact job title so I can put that in my application, I'll see it after the game.

Awesome, just let me know what you need; we can communicate through PM if you'd prefer

Jeff, Bacon King is really doling out some great advice and options, here. Don't let your pride get in the way of a really good suggestion and a willing referrer.

He and I are in correspondence over PM over application and such.  He is going to give me the link after he wakes up in the morning and I'll get started on the application immediately after I get home from my other job searching tomorrow midday.

Good Monday Morning!  This is the first official day of the job hunt.  I've got two places that I'm going to visit today and then this afternoon I'll work on the application to Walmart and make a few phone calls.  I'll be busy most of the day, and then I'll watch Monday Night Football tonight.

I don't think Bushie can go in and quit tomorrow. I'm pretty sure he'll be greeted at his desk by his boss and let go. I don't even know if they'll have a "talk." I think his boss is just fed up with his performance and didn't even want to wait until November 1st.

im afraid bushie wont go in at all.

I will go in.  Whatever decision comes down is made easier with the job search already in progress.  I'll go in and man up.

good job, bushie.

be honest:  did you screw up really bad at this job?  is there something you havent told us?  why was your boss hollering 'he doesnt get it.

I just kept making boneheaded mistakes.  Mistakes that I learned not to make a month earlier.  This wasn't as bad, but it still rolled back about 45-60 minutes of productivity.  It was easy to correct, but I still should not have made those blatant errors for the second time when I knew what I was doing.  I thought about that the entire evening on my way to my parents and then as I was laying down.  I'm sure that is playing a big part in the "talk" tomorrow.

Uhh, are we sure a 300 pound man with Tourettes that has never worked at Wal Mart before can just waltz right in and get a salaried assistant manager position?

I was wondering the same thing actually...

It never hurts to apply.
