They're paying for a lot fewer bills.  I'm picking up my rent and a couple other bills, and they're chipping in for other smaller bills, but not as much as a month ago.  I hope to make their contribution less and less until I don't need it at all anymore.

So you're paying rent and what else? Are they still paying your credit cards off?

I'd rather not say publicly.  I don't want to give Mondale any ideas.

I'm not saying to list the companies. I'm just curious if you're paying your insurance, utilities, etc. I'm also curious of whether you actually started paying your cards off yourself like you assured us you would.

I'm paying the rent, utilities, cable, cell phone, student loan (college), life insurance, one credit card, and gasoline.  They are paying the other credit card, my regular loan, and the car insurance.

I am still trying to pay off the regular loan.  I had to drop to minimum payments due to the loss of my job, but now that I am working I hope to be able to pay down the loan faster.  I am within 8 months at minimum payments to pay it off.  So, I am trying to cut that down to 4-5 months.  Once that is paid off, then we'll start on the big credit card.

First off, I am not going to lose this job, so I don't know why all the speculation and negative posting about that.  Did I not specifically request that all such speculation be stopped?  Why am I being ignored?

Second, I have just started the application process for the post office.  I just ordered an application packet over the phone that will arrive at my door within 10-14 calendar days.  That's the only way to apply for the post office.

When you lament the fact that you're being ignored, Jon Stewart should run clips of all the times you've ignored the good advice of the posters here.

On your second point ... GOOD. I don't exactly know what sorts of positions you'd be looking at with the post office, but plenty of people I've known have turned that into a stable and long-term career. Aside from doing customer service at a counter, they may have something that's more up your alley. And keep the passive search up for other opportunities, too. Now's the time to do it -- when you're not desperate.

I wouldn't mind being a letter carrier.  It be a sure way to lose weight and get in shape, especially if I'm running neighborhood street routes.

There are plenty of other jobs, the letter carrier is just the most visible position within the postal service.

They still walk the mail in Oklahoma, especially in the cities and suburbs.  We have neighborhoods with the mail box on the wall of the house by the front door.  It makes more sense to walk than to drive.  In the country, driving makes more sense.

So, Jeff -- why aren't you applying online for the post office? Are you doing paper applications for other jobs, too?

I looked on www.tulsahelpwanted.com and searched for entry-level jobs looking for postal service jobs.  It said "apply here" and gave a phone number, so I called the phone number listed and for a shipping and handling fee I could get the application package sent in the mail which also includes not only an application, but test prep materials (which presumably is why they charge).  If I had applied directly online I doubt I would have gotten the test prep materials.

I apply for some jobs online, other jobs in person which sometimes leads to an immediate interview.

Dadgummet!!!!!  I did fall for it.  Aye, aye, aye....

I can't do anything about the money I spent on this one, I don't believe.

I'm going online to the postal service website as we speak.

Jeff, what was the name of the book you bought, and how much did you pay for it?

I don't know what the name of the book was, but the price was $58 including the price of the book and shipping and handling.

You could call and try to cancel the order.  Although I'm guessing they'll tell you something like, "It's already shipped."  At least from everything I've found, there are no reports that the scammers steal credit card numbers, but seriously, Jeff, what were you thinking?

You've fallen for more scams than anyone I know... I'm beginning to wonder if your life story isn't just you pulling one epic troll-a-thon on the forum.

I have no idea honestly what I was thinking.  I thought initially it was suspicious for them to charge me to apply, but I didn't go with my gut.

I can understand why you think that, but my life story is legit.  I don't purposely like to troll.

I would check your credit card balance and recent transactions, who knows if you are actually getting a book.  You could have just punched in your credit card data for someone to steal.

I just checked my online account and I don't show a charge on their, yet.  I've checked my pending transactions, but I see nothing.  I gave the information to an actual customer service rep.  I physically talked to someone to give her my cc info.

I would check every couple days for the time being.  The only thing I can really find about the company you applied for is other people saying they made the same call (though they didn't send the $$$).  Hopefully you just got screwed out of the $58.  Keep checking and if you see anything suspicious report it and cancel the card immeiately.

I will.

I'm not worried about it.  I've got a good job so I will get paychecks to replenish the money when it comes out.

I did a quick search for back-office jobs in Tulsa and came across at least a dozen decent prospects that would fit you better than your current position or one that involves physical labor at the post office. Surely you could handle an entry-level accounting job where you review orders for accuracy and process things, right?

Absolutely

What is the update on the CAD certificate?  It's long past the time you said you would know.

They haven't called me back, yet, however, my instructor emailed me back yesterday and said I did complete the program, but reiterated that that should not affect my employment chances.  He thinks my speech impediment could be a bigger stumbling block to potential employers (which I don't necessarily disagree with), although I rarely ever stutter in interviews.  I need to get the number to the South Bryant Campus.  Aaron does not handle it and even scolded me for asking her.  The thing is my lunch breaks drop to half an hour starting Monday and I will take lunch when they take lunch so I'll have no time to call them.

She was like "How did you get my number?  I don't handle this issue.  You have to call the South Bryant Campus for that.  I'll transfer you, but I don't handle it."  She said it in a slightly condescending tone.  I didn't tell her that Grumps gave me the number.  I just told her I looked it up.

Lunch time.  There was a thought we might be on the phones today, then they said next week, now I'm hearing mid-August.  Yesterday, I heard close to Labor Day.  There is no such thing as consistency in this place.  One tenured agent got canned in front of our eyes.  One gal was fired last Friday and rehired 10 minutes later...  That stuff happens around here.  It is a job that has a lot of quirks...

Apparently it takes a month or more to get all of our logins.  That would be August 9 at the earliest.  That's a Saturday, so August 11.  I'm just going to be ready any time.

Until I start taking calls, I will be side jacking listening to other agents take calls.  I will continue to look, but I have no intention of leaving here until I have a start date.
