I did go to church tonight, for the monthly business meeting.  I was officially voted into the membership of the church tonight at 17:54 MST (I looked at my watch).  I went down front back in early November during the invitation and applied to join as a member, then I started the New Member's Class in late November which is a 4 week course going over the beliefs of the church, the by-laws, the Covenant and so forth.  I attended the first two weeks and then got sidetracked by vacations, illnesses, snow storms, etc and just finally got around to finishing the last two weeks January 27 and February 3.  I'm looking forward to getting involved in the church.  I've already signed up for Vacation Bible School in July and look forward to getting involved even more.

I had a pretty good day at work.  I had to run an errand right after work and I was hungry on the way home from that errand and I was tempted to stop by McDonald's as it was on the way and fast and convenient.  I thought better of it and drove the extra 2-3 miles and went by Subway, because I really didn't want the grease that comes along with McDonald's.  I knew Subway, while it is still technically fast food, is a much healthier option than Mickey's if nothing else than on account of the grease.

I've had a busy afternoon since I left work.  First of all, I went to an interview late yesterday afternoon for a technical support position in West Valley City a contract-to-hire position. (Yes, a call center).  It pays slightly more at $13.00/hr instead of $12.00/hr.  I have a second interview tomorrow at 14:30 and I will know by 16:00.  It is 12.5 miles from where I live and I will have benefits by April 1.  There is one position open and they are interviewing two people.  I am the second interview.  It is a 6-month contract to hire.  If I get the job tomorrow, they would allow me to put in a two week notice at Xerox and start on March 4.  I haven't made up my mind about the position, though.  It is a dollar an hour higher, but I am traveling 25 miles round trip as opposed to 2.5 miles round trip, so I'm not sure if I would be gaining anything, really, based on the extra gas I would use.  However, while it is only a dollar an hour higher, it has the potential to go up after I get on permanent which would be in September.  At Xerox, when I get on permanent, I will not get a raise.  In fact, I won't get a raise at all at Xerox unless I get promoted.  So, I'm not sure at this point.

Are you seriously considering quitting your job for a $1 per hour raise that will be eaten up by increased gas costs anyway?

I am not really for the short term, but for the long term prospects.  This company I will be interviewing for is Intermountain Health Care, the largest private employer in Utah and Southern Idaho.  There is more promise and hope of a not-too-distant raise, whereas at Xerox there is no hope for a raise.

But isn't it a contract-to-hire position? So you could, you know, not have a job at the end of the contract.

Very true, but on the same token, I am still on the contract side of contract-to-hire at Xerox.  I'm pretty certain I will get on permanent, but there is no guarantee.  I wouldn't be gaining or losing anything there.

Nope, still at Xerox.  I called off the interview.  I figured it would be too long of a drive and the benefits don't outweigh the risks.  So, for now, I am staying put and looking forward to finishing Month 4 at Xerox.

Okay, my recruiter just made a liar out of me (so what's new, right!)  He brought up another, much, much better opportunity.  It is a Desktop Support and not a traditional call center.  I will still be doing phone support, but I will also be doing face to face support and email support.  It pays $14.00 and is only 2.8 miles from my house and still no Interstate, so only 6 miles round trip..  If I wanted to get on the Interstate, it would be the very next exit after where I get on. It is a 6-month Contract to Hire, as well.

would you really use up the 1 dollar difference in gas by driving 10 more miles a day? Yeah some of it would go to gas but all of it.

Probably 80 cents of it.  Plus that's just 10 miles one way, 20 miles round trip.  That's an extra 100 miles a week.

It is a contract to hire.  I've got a phone interview with them after work either tomorrow or Friday.  It is a two-step interview process.  I am really going to go for this job should it be offered.  But, still, as with the job I just interviewed for today and was turned down, worst case scenario is I can continue as is at Xerox.  Although, I am making a promise to myself.  If I do not get this job, I am going to suspend the job search for about 6 months and focus on getting established and maybe moving up in Xerox.

This is my first ever Skype Interview, so I don't know how common they really are.

They want Skype as my interviewer is all the way in New York.

I should know the results of the Skype Interview by Monday and whether I am selected to move to the second interview which is a face-to-face in the Sandy, Utah Office.

If I am eventually offered the position, I will take it, but if I don't get it, I'm going to suspend the job search for at least six months if not one year.

I just got finished with the Skype interview.  I thought it went well, but I won't know anything until Monday or Tuesday.  So, now, I can just enjoy my weekend and relax.  There's not much in the way of basketball on tonight, so I think I'm going to make it a movie marathon night watching a lot of Marx Brothers movies, starting off with Room Service, At the Circus, Go West, The Big Store, and A Night in Casablanca.

The first of the 5 movie marathon is over.  I just watched the Marx Brothers' movie, Room Service.  Now, I'm watching At the Circus.  After At the Circus, I will be doing my Biggest Loser challenge and weigh-in and then resuming my movie marathon with Go West and The Big Store and finished off with A Night in Casablanca

All things considered, do you want to change jobs or not? Simple yes or no question. Unless this offer is just too good to be true (and let's all hope it's not; we all know where that road leads) the above does not make any sense at all.

I want to change jobs, but I also want stability.  I was going to stop looking after the interview on Wednesday failed, but before I could tell my recruiter, I got an email with this possibility.  I thought about turning it down, but I didn't and decided to pursue it.  So, I had the Skype Interview this afternoon.  Honestly, I don't feel too confident about the interview, so from here I will probably just attempt to gain some tenure.  Read into that, that I will not actively look for a job, though, but if a possibility comes across my email, I'll look at it.

Of course, the interview from today is not off the table, yet, I just don't fee too confident about it.  If it does work, I'm changing jobs.

You're watching five movies in one evening? Are you immobile?

Plus, working out.  None of these movies are over 90 minutes.

Plus, working out.  None of these movies are over 90 minutes.
Even if they were only an hour each, that's five hours on the couch. In actuality, it's probably more like seven. You're, of course, more than welcome to spend your evening however you like. I don't want to come across as judgemental because that's not my angle at all. Mostly I'm impressed with your ability to sit still for that long. Not many people have that kind of slothful endurance. And I'm glad you're playing the Biggest Loser. Do you find the workouts strenuous? If not, it's not a good workout. I'm 100% unfamiliar with the game though I used to play Wii Fit a lot. It was fun and better than nothing, but an extremely mild workout.

The workouts are strenuous.  They bring in new things every two or three days to add to it and change it up.

I doubt I will be getting to the 5th movie tonight as it is 9:00.  With a 45 minute workout plus another 4 1/2 hours of movies, I would not be going to bed until at least 2:15 am, plus time to change the movies out.  2:15 is only an hour before my alarm goes off on a typical workday.  Without that 5th movie, I could probably be in bed by 00:30.  We'll play it by ear.

Alright, so after my work out this evening, I was tempted to have a glass of soda and some Deluxe Graham chocolate cookies. I decided against it and had two green apples and a couple of glasses of V-8 fusion.

Movie 3 is over, but I'm going to wait for 4 and 5 until another time as I am starting to get sleepy and it is approaching 11:00.  I'm going to try to be in bed by midnight.  My next movie night, I may watch a series of movies that I was not able to watch 2 months ago.  I may watch Home Alone and Home Alone 2.  They are Christmas movies, but as you all know in my little world, its ALWAYS Christmas. That's how you spend your Fridays? Watching movies at home?

Pretty much just this Friday as there wasn't much in the way of sports on.  The NBA is in All Star break, College Basketball doesnt have much on Friday nights. Baseball games havent started, yet.  I try to watch some movies every month or every other month.  Next movie nigbt, I will probably watch the Home Alone movies as I was not able to watch them during Christmas.
