The US Postal Service and the Obama Administration are considering doing away with Saturday mail, a staple that's been in American homes for the last century save for a week in 1957.  The USPS tried the same thing in 1957, but President Eisenhower got so much response against the idea that he signed into law a bill that would restore the 6-day a week mail delivery.  So, there was only one Saturday in 1957 that was missed.

Another thing to consider in this question is that in 1957, most mail were favorabe (i.e. letters).  Nowadays, the majority of the mail is either junk mail or bills and very few personal letters and/or legitimate rebate/refund checks.

Do you support the idea and another question, do you see it gaining steam with the popularity and the speed of electronic mail?  Is the irreplaceable look and feel of a handwritten letter enough to keep your mail coming every day except Sunday?

I agree with a lot of posters on here in both parties.  I'm not opposed to stopping delivery, as long as the post office stays open on Saturday mornings.

However, I am not in favor of opening the post office on Sunday.  As a church-goer, I would be willing to sacrifice convenience of doing business on Sundays to allow the employees the opportunity to exercise their first amendment right and worship wherever and however they choose.  I will concede that some business is necessary on Sundays (i.e. grocery stores, department stores, home improvement stores, etc and other 'essential' establishments), but other commerce-related businesses such as banks, post offices, government offices, etc. should be left alone on Sundays.  Basically, I like things the way they are right now, save that I wouldn't mind losing Saturday mail.  Since I don't do Netflix, it won't affect me.
