Richard Nixon's Solicitor General was Robert Bork.

Bork's 1987 Supreme Court nomination hearing was chaired by Joe Biden.

Barry Bonds and Lee Harvey Oswald. It took me six degress to design this one and it has some poltical figures here. GO...

In less than six steps:

1. Barry Bonds has been involved in a scandal involving steroids, as was Arnold Schwarzeneggar.
2. Arnold Schwarzeneggar is married to Maria Shriver.
3. Maria Shriver is the niece of John F. Kennedy.
4. John F. Kennedy was assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald.

----------

Bob Packwood and Mike Gravel.

(Think: Vietnam)

I didn't think of that route, nice job!

I had Bonds to Hank Aaron to Jim Bunning to Bill Clinton to JFK to Oswald.

Actually I think it's acceptable. Since they're running in the same race, it's basically "A ran against B for the office" only the actual election hasn't happened yet.
(In response to Joe:  I think what he meant by his earlier comment was that things like "George Washington and George Wallace both ran for President" are unacceptable, while "George Wallace and Richard Nixon ran against each other in 1968" are.)

Fair point.

My own Packwood-Gravel connection was that they both defeated the only two senators to vote against the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, but DWPerry did well with his own link.

Joe - Check your source. They were not in the Senate in 1964.

What do you mean?  Wayne Morse and Ernest Gruening were the only two senators to vote against it, were they not?

My bad.  I didn't see the word DEFEATED in your first post!

I misread it and thought Packwood and Gravel voted for it.

Not sure if this follows the rules but oh well...

William Proxmire served along with Gaylord Nelson as Wisconsin's Senators for 18 years.

Gaylord Nelson was elected to the Senate in 1962 along with Birch Bayh of Indiana (BTW: both defeated incumbents)

Birch Bayh was defeated by Dan Quayle in 1980.

Richard Nixon defeated Lyndon Johnson for President in 1968

Is that entirely accurate?

(Excellent connection between the Johnsons, though. Smiley )

I guess DWPerry could get rid of Harold Stassen and the chain would work with the following...

G.H.W Bush was appointed to the UN by Richard Nixon
Nixon defeated Hubert Humphrey in 1968
Humphrey was VP under LBJ

Now try mine again - Dennis Hastert and Charles Sumner (this was random by me)

Roy Moore defeated Harold See in the 2000 race for Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court.
Harold See elicited the help from Karl Rove in his failed Chief Justice race.
Karl Rove was Deputy Chief of Staff under President George W. Bush.
George W. Bush's LT Governor of Texas was Rick Perry.

Michael Bloomberg was preceded as Mayor of NYC by Rudy Giuliani.

Rudy Giuliani is currently competing against Fred Thompson for the GOP presidential nomination in 2008.

Fred Thompson previously served as campaign manager for an earlier senator from Tennessee; Howard Baker.

Howard Baker is married to Nancy Landon Kassebaum, a former senator from Kansas.

Nancy Landon Kassebaum is the daughter of a former governor of Kansas, Alfred Landon.

Alfred Landon ran for president in 1936, with Frank Knox as his running mate.

Gale Norton and Hugo Black.

Joe: That was actually seven steps. But you followed my logic. Just get rid of Rudy. Bloomberg did cameos on law & Order alongside Fred Thompson. Nice work though.

Hugo Black was succeeded on the Supreme Court by Lewis Powell.
Lewis Powell was nominated to the Supreme Court by Richard Nixon.
Richard Nixon appointed George H.W. Bush to the United Nations.
George H.W. Bush's eldest son is George W. Bush.
George W. Bush appointed Gale Norton to be Secretary of the Interior.
