Ukraine calls for Russia to be booted off the internet

Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov sent a letter to the president of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) on Monday.

He asked ICANN to revoke — either permanently or temporarily — the domains .ru and .su.

Russia will have no internet soon.

Don't count your chickens too soon.  I will be very very surprised if ICANN agrees to this action.

Wouldn't that be bad, actually?

We want Russians to have access to the Internet - maybe the only source to uncensored information about the war in that country.

Google could hurt the Russians more.

By shutting down search, that would limit their internet adversely.

Facebook has been essentially shut down, but in that case, I would not term that a hindrance to any society.

Ukrainians despise the Russian government, they will never accept a Russian imposed regime. There is nobody who will support it. Former Yanukovych voters are now diehard anti Russia hardliners. They will fight a guerrilla war forever if that is what it takes.

It's a very big country.

It's best with these situations to realise the first casualty of war is the truth.

Take the Sarajevo market bombing in the Bosnian War. Serbian artillery commanders used a live feed from CNN to target the Muslim markets in the centre of town.

The last pro-Kremlin president was forced out by popular protest and that guy was actually elected. Imagine what’s going to happen when a puppet is installed at gunpoint.

I don't know. A guy raised it with me in conversation today. He said the invasion was the easy part.

Trying to maintain Ukraine as a Russian state will be next to impossible was the advice he provided.

The economic backlash against Russia looks to be the main issue.

Ukraine had quite a prevalent African-Ukrainian population.

I think y’all are underestimating Russia a bit. While yes the invasion could have gone better, they still are making important advances. Invasions don’t just happen overnight.

Same. Previous invasions of Iraq by USA in 2003 were no faster for the area covered.

Ukraine has an area of 600,000 sq.km. Iraq is only 400,000 sq. KM.

That is a monstrous amount of land to cover in an invasion.

The southern coast is the Russian's primary goal at present. If they take Odessa, Ukraine is completely cut off by sea. Then they can close the gaps.

Russian Secretary of State, Colinov Powellsky, just addressed the media with the following 'evidence' of Ukrainian WMD's.



Colinov said that Russian intelligence have intercepted some of the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy' online purchases, and that although it looks like he was purchasing 'Geraniums from Africa', he may have in fact been ordering 'Uranium from Africa'.

Russia starting to get its military functioning together with several Ukrainian cities surrounded including the capital, Kiev.

The troops waiting on the Western side of the city have started to encircle the city to the South  after troops arrived on the Eastern front.

Kiev is likely to become encircled with no air support.

You just get the feeling that more Russian casualties will only serve to bring out deadlier weapons.

Zelensky is talking a big game, but he has one major tactical problem - no one is coming to help him.

If Russians cut all supply lines and destroy Western arms shipments, they will be completely isolated.

In other news, female journalist Marina Ovsyannikova has been fined for protesting on national Russian TV. Her Instagram page is still live despite Vladimir Putin threatening to ban Instagram. Maybe it's just banned inside Russia.
