And yet, significant amounts of it would have been wasted regardless of whether there was room to store it, because our system of producing and distributing food is wholly inefficient at preventing hunger or avoiding waste.  And, as a consequence of this increased waste, our methane emissions from landfill and organic rot increase directly, not to mention the associated pollution that comes with the pointless production of the wasted crops.

It's an enormous indictment on agricultural policy that as resources will become scarcer with the acceleration of climate change, we continue to encourage and fund over-production while people across the country and all over the world don't have enough to eat.
