I just hope Irma doesn't hit Virginia too hard, if at all....

We might need some of the extra rain, though:

Here's the current track, pending an update in about a quarter-of-an-hour:

Seems Irma looks likely to either go up the west coast of Florida, or head just offshore until it hits the panhandle -in which case Pensacola and/or Mobile will really need to watch out given how the models keep pushing the northward turn of this hurricane further west with each run:

Hurricane Irma is closing in on sustained winds of 190 mph -and should reach 200 mph soon.

Here is the current location of Hurricane Irma:

And its latest track -it is looking less likely that the mountains of Cuba will weaken Irma before it turns north unto the Florida peninsula:

Looks like Hurricane Irma will be a category 4 by the time it hits south Florida on Sunday:

And it looks like Georgia and the Carolinas will start to feel the impacts from the storm Monday, with Virginia following suit Tuesday:

The worst winds will stay focused on Florida as well as coastal Georgia and the Carolinas:

Tropical storm Jose has reached Hurricane strength and so has Katia. There are now 3 active Hurricanes.

Thankfully, neither will impact areas already heavily affected by either Hurricanes Harvey or Irma:

Alot of the models look like theyre shifting east, maybe going off shore florida, although under any scenario this will be a disaster. Either for Florida or for Georgia and South Carolina

Just be glad Labor Day weekend is over, and most vacationers in those areas have probably made it home by now.

That's one silver lining, at least.

Some changes to the likely impacts from Hurricane Irma:

By the time Hurricane Irma re-enters the United States in the Savannah-Charleston area (after leaving Florida), it will only be a category 1.  Not as bad as what Florida and the Bahamas are about to experience.

Hurricane Jose is now a category 4 with 150 mph sustained winds:

Once it clears the Leeward islands, it should become a fish storm, though Bermuda might want to keep an eye on it:

Update from the Hurricane Prediction Center is that Irma will be a category 5 when it hits south Florida.  Tongue

Now it looks as if the eye of Hurricane Irma (now back to a category 4) is eyeing Tallahassee:

Florida is going to get hit hard, but this hurricane doesn't seem to be quite as devastating as originally feared with models earlier predicting the eye to go straight up the peninsula.

We'll see what happens today and tomorrow, though....

It could have been worse -bear in mind that the damage wrought by Hurricane Andrew in 1992 cost more than $25 billion:

Another storm has formed, Nate, and it's projected path has it hitting the Mississippi Delta region as a hurricane on Sunday.

I hope it makes it up here relatively intact -we need that rain.
