Are they trying to fulfill every negative stereotype conservatives have about liberals?

Oh, who cares about the stereotypes conservatives have about liberals?  The type of people who completely worship the flag do so because they are conditioned to and told to.  There, I just stereotyped conservatives.  Do you think they care?

Here's why -at least since the Reagan era, conservatives have succeeded in making the term 'liberal' into an epithet by playing to the many stereotypes engendered since the Vietnam War, to the point that while the general population may be operationally liberal, they shrink from identifying as such.

Actions like this doesn't help.  It is as if liberals are stating that they are too sophisticated to be openly patriotic.  This elitism and snobbery needs to end.
