Curiously enough, he was nowhere near as bellicose as President than when he was Vice-President under William McKinley. Or, for that matter, after his Presidency when the First World War broke out. If anything, he was the peace-maker during his White House years, negotiating an end to the Russo-Japanese War, for which he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906.
