Republicans view/demonize Barack Obama in ways not dissimilar to how Democrats viewed/demonized Richard Nixon during his presidency.  It is only in retrospect that we see just how moderate Nixon really was -if we ignore Watergate.  And I think Republicans in years and decades to come will reach the same conclusion with regard to Barack Obama after he leaves office.
