Would definitely need to hold some other office first. He can write books about the interests of the working class and the Appalachian part of the state, but that doesn't mean he's known.

Vance and Connie Schultz got into a bit on Twitter this morning. Much less interested in seeing him run now. I also don't think he could connect well with his former neighbors too well, given his attitude and what others have said.

Congress would be rough, and he probably knows it. If he went back to Middletown, he'd be eligible to run in the 1st, 8th, and 10th.

The 1st is home to Steve Chabot, and with Cincinnati turning blue, a really bad gerrymander will be required to keep him in office come redistricting.

The 8th is Boehner's old district and now home to Warren Davidson, who Jim Jordan successfully recruited into the fold of the Freedom Caucus. Vance could maybe pick him off. The conservative Miami University, which is Paul Ryan's alma mater, is also in this district.

The 10th is home to Mike Turner and based in Dayton. Vance would be a fool to primary Turner, and when Turner does leave, this will be a hard-fought race as it is key pick-up opportunity for Democrats.

Just FYI, Malcolm, it was The New Republic, not The Atlantic. Smiley
