Ryan isn't as hated as Nancy Pelosi, painting him as a villain might work, but Fire Pelosi was a rallying cry for not just republicans but many independents, it may boost D turnout with a Fire Ryan movement but I dont think it would be as galvanizing

Whipping up anger and hate work for the GOP but dont seem to work for liberals

Sure it does, it works all the time for liberals.

Maybe on Facebook but not at the voting booth
yawn, all the time, 2006 is a great example, but Democrats frequently use anger and outrageous claims (just like republicans do) to drive voters to the voting booth.

If they are smart about using outrageous claims, then Bush would have been impeached long back.

Anyways 2006, no1 required any anger, Bush was hated, his approvals were 26%, one of the worst in history !

They need to present a strong progressive message fighting for the little guy, Minimum Wage increase, Climate Change, expanding healthcare, education affordability, cheaper drug prices, etc. And they have to connect all the issues with the average middle & working class, connect it to the kitchen table issues. You don't have to have 1 central theme - Somewhere in a red rural state you could ask about a 10-12$ Min wage, in NY-CA you can ask for 15. Somewhere an expansion of Medicare or somewhere Medicare for all but it has to be a bold message which can tuned according to geography. But they have to hammer home the message & policy positions time & again with strong data & an emotional message. People should know the vision & where the Democrats stand on the issues.

You don't have to run an overtly negative campaign, the media is anyways after Trump's million gaffes & Trump himself is a disaster & is screwing up. You will have Super-pacs running negative & even Republicans fighting among each other. There is already a huge negative image & campaign building that.

Don't create an ugly fight which turns voters off - Give an alternate positive progressive message. And for God's sake be empathetic & authentic, people value that person cares about me & are emotionally more moved than by dry policy positions (& don't run robotic emotionless consultant honed people)

His approvals in 2006 were 38 at the time of the election, and in the low 40's in the months leading up to it (roughly mirroring where Trump is now). Please check your facts. Didn't hit the 20's til the recession.

Yea you are right, I forgot. His approvals in Gallup varied from 33 to 38% in the 2 months in the lead up to the elections. I think other News outlets had him at 32-33% odd. His unfavorables were Super high (Higher than trump).

His net approval varied from -20 to -30 odd in late 2006 which only increased when the recession hit. An average of -25 is still absolutely terrible though.
