Where did you find that? I've been tracking Gallup's presidential approval ratings page and Obama has not yet reached 54% on there this year.

-

In other news: June 6th - 12th survey has Obama at 53%

The Orlando attack happened on the last day of this, so we won't know the impact until Gallup finishes its next weekly survey. I don't think there will be a rally-around effect, so his approval ratings will probably take a temporary dive to mid-high 40s if I had to guess. We'll have to see how the public's perception of his handling of this tragedy plays out.

However, if Obama rebounds and this positive trend continues, then it might be possible that Obama hits 55% or more at least once before the election.

It could be just a noise, as it seems right now.

Obama 52/46 right now.

Too much hype. Obama has consistently been at low-50s on Gallup's weekly average, with occasional high numbers in other polls. If he was truly nearing Bill/Eisenhower-level popularity, his numbers would be trending to upper-50s with a base of no lower than 55%.

In the end, I think Obama will go out well-liked and be more liked over time, but as much as I like & respect the guy, it's clear this election has brought to light a better appreciation for him, whereas people like Eisenhower were almost always popular, even (moderately, anyhow) during a recession that otherwise caused the rest of the GOP to implode downballot.
