I was planning on doing an election game for the 2016 election cycle, and I wanted to see how many people would be interested.

For those who don't know, here are the basic rules of this game:

- You may sign up as any candidate who would have been able to run for president in 2016.
- Turns will last 48 hours, although a player may request an extension of 24 hours if they wish.
- Each turn will consist of the following:
* Poll results and any potentially relevant news items will be posted at the start of the turn. Candidates may request polling for one state per turn (in PMs), and there will be polls for the aforementioned state by next turn.
* Candidates will post schedules for the week of the turn, although they don't necessarily have to be incredibly specific. Schedules should summarize the week of the candidate.
* Candidates may also make advertisements, which can help their performance.
* Players should PM me to ask for endorsements, and GIVE REASONING WHY they should be endorsed. Some endorsements will be more difficult to get than others, so try to be realistic.
* On turn 1, players will signup as their candidates, and post campaign announcement speeches if they so choose. Turn 2 will be the week of Monday, June 15 through Sunday, June 22.
* The debate schedule will be roughly the same as in real life (if there are multiple debates for one party in one week, I'll just do one debate). During a debate, I will PM each player taking part a set of questions to answer, and each player's debate answers will be in the topic at the start of the next turn.

Candidates:

Democratic Party

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) - GoTfan21
Vice President Joe Biden (D-DE) - wjx987
Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) - NewYorkExpress

Republican Party

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) - BigVic
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) - UWS
Stephen Pearcy (R-CA) - Jaguar4Life
Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) - CMB222
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) - Yankee_Mapper
Donald J. Trump (R-NY) - diptheriadan
Governor Mitch Daniels (R-IN) - Serious_Username

Yes, although entering after the first debate may not be the best idea.

Turn Two: Monday, June 15

State of the Presidential Race:

Almost every pundit had assumed Hillary Clinton would be a shoo-in to the Democratic nomination, which makes it all the more shocking that she will likely not announce a campaign. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, despite technically not being a member of the Democratic Party, was the first to announce his campaign. Sanders, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist, has had a reputation for being an outspoken progressive, and his base is expected to draw from both progressive and anti-establishment voters. Soon after, incumbent Vice President Joe Biden announced his campaign as well. Biden is thought of as more of a moderate candidate, and the establishment is expected to be split between him and Warren for the most part. Most recently, Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts has announced her campaign. A former advisor to President Obama, she became nationally famous after defeating incumbent Senator Scott Brown in 2012. Warren has a reputation as a progressive, although less liberal and more establishment-friendly than Sanders.

In the Republican primaries, Senators Ted Cruz (Texas) and Marco Rubio (Florida) both announced their campaigns quickly, as pundits had predicted. Cruz mainly draws his voters from the Tea Party, while Rubio is more of an establishment candidate, although a rather conservative one. The third announcement, however, came out of left field even for most pundits. Ratt lead singer Stephen Pearcy, who had previously been uninvolved in politics for the most part, announced his candidacy, stating dissatisfaction with the current set of candidates. Although many pundits don't expect him to do well, his candidacy has won over voters who are against the Republican establishment and would prefer an outsider over a politician. In a slightly less surprising announcement, Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas, who had mostly been overlooked as a potential candidate, also announced his candidacy. Moran is in a position where he could potentially get supporters from both mainstream conservatives and the Tea Party, but his low name recognition could be an obstacle. The next candidate to enter the race was Rand Paul, who had been predicted to be a candidate for quite a while. Although not as libertarian as his father, Paul is quite libertarian even by Tea Party standards. It is unknown where his voters will come from ideologically at this point in time, although supporters of his father in 2012 may also support him. In another rather surprising development, Donald Trump, after multiple times teasing a run for the presidency only to refuse, finally entered the race. His politics, which have been called populist and anti-establishment, could get voters from a variety of right-wing ideologies. The most recent candidate to enter the race was Mitch Daniels, a former governor of Indiana. Daniels is the first candidate to enter the race who could be described as a moderate, which could potentially be a major benefit to him, but could also backfire.

Recent News:

On June 2, the Senate passed the USA Freedom Act, and President Obama subsequently signed it into law. The USA Freedom Act's purpose was mainly to replace the USA Patriot Act, which had expired the day before. Although some sections of the USA Patriot Act were toned down, there are still parts that remain intact.
The Turkish general election was held on June 7. President Recep Erdogan's party, the Justice and Development Party, lost 69 seats and their majority in the Turkish Grand National Assembly. Given that no party has a majority, negotiations for a coalition government are in process.

Polls:

National Primary - Democrats

Vice Pres. Joe Biden: 36%
Sen. Elizabeth Warren: 29%
Sen. Bernie Sanders: 23%

Iowa Caucus - Democrats

Vice Pres. Joe Biden: 33%

Is it too late for me to enter? I'm thinking Jon Hunstman.

The first debate has yet to occur, so you could probably get in if you so chose.

Granted.

By the way, just letting you all know that from the next turn on, turns will last two weeks rather than one, so that we can hopefully get through the debates and primaries faster.

First off, I'd just like to thank you all for bearing with me throughout this entire time. I never expected the game to have so much participation, and I'm glad to see it from almost all of you.

Turn Three: Monday, June 22-Sunday, July 5

State of the Presidential Race:

One of the more surprising events of the 2016 race occurred early on. Donald Trump, who many had predicted as a darkhorse candidate with potential to win, dropped out surprisingly early just as he had in the past. The impact was felt both immediately and soon after. One of the biggest impacts was felt on his 11% of supporters nationally. The majority went to Pearcy, a very similar candidate in a number of ways, but they mostly went in all directions.

Recent News:

21-year old Dylann Roof has confessed to a shooting at a church in Charleston, South Carolina that resulted in the deaths of nine people, including State Senator Clementa Pinckney. Roof has stated that his intentions were based in racism.
The US House of Representatives has passed the Trade Promotion Authority bill by only 10 votes. It gives President Obama the ability to 'fast track' the Trans-Pacific Partnership agreement.
