DFW: You will recall at the time that Peebs was also running for the Presidency as a laborite and I assumed she would have her prospective run go well as well. However, Representative Blair, the leader of the Labor Party, did two things in this instant. The first thing was that he pressured Representative Southern Gothic to join up on a ticket with Speaker NeverAgain, despite the fact that Mr. Gothic had already agreed to be on a ticket with me. The second thing was that he asked Peebs to run for President despite the fact that he had already known "weeks in advance" that Speaker NeverAgain was running for President. I find these to be two separate acts of betrayal by the leader of Labor, one against me, the other against Peebs.
After learning that Nev wanted to run, I confronted him about it, first on PM, then in my obligatory Presidential channel. Realizing that I'd have no chance against him (but then again, I, fresh off the Fed ticket, got 4 votes against Truman and I didn't even want to win
), I withdrew my candidacy.
After the fact, Blair mentioned that he was receiving PMs that he "'was playing [me] and Never-Again' against each other in the primary- which is hilarious considering that [he] found out about [my] bid last night, and went to bed thinking [
I]'d still be a candidate" and that he "was actually looking forward to a competitive primary purely because [he's] a nerd, and [he] wanted to see how it played out."
Also, for the record, I wasn't asked by Blair to run. I announced before he could.
