In the last four Presidential elections the Dems have won several southern states, the GOP has won a state in the northeast ONCE in the last 4 elections. The Dems problems in the South is actually not as bad as the GOP's problems in the northeast
Clinton averaged about 2-3 southern states out of about 10 total. Gore won no states down there while Kerry did the same. Out of the old south; Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, and North Carolina, only Georgia went Clinton's way(once). I don't consider Tenessee, Louisiana, or Arkansas quite in a class with these 6 although they are all currently solid Republican states. Democrats more than have their problems there, in my opinion.
