Byrd, Jr./Representative John Rarick: 65 Electoral Votes 10.0%The U.S Presidential Election of 1968 was different than any other elections, it included the first televised presidential debate, in which King seemed more civil, with being criticized by Goldwater and Byrd, Jr. just because he was black, they used several racial slurs and all of America was watching, and he denounced them civilly, acting presidential. This led King, Jr. to crush both Goldwater and Byrd in the General Election. Segregation was to be killed.
